Normally I review cookbooks and other healthy living, non-fiction books. But this is an exception I’ll make
as it’s a great idea to get the vegan message across ; )
You might think a book entitled The Vampire and The Vegan would be a steamy love story or even a good silly one with a light message. But while the book reads more like a pamphlet for veganism, it does the job in an entertaining way.
The two main characters, Pearl (The Vampire) and Salaam (The Vegan), represent the two opposing sides, vegans and non-vegans. When Pearl feeds upon her victims, Vassall describes the process of killing and how the animals are treated, illustrating the horrors of factory farming, etc. For Salaam, he shows that it is just as healthy to be a Vegan.
While the book may appeal to people who are already vegan or vegetarian, Vassall hopes that her fictional tale may convert non-vegan folks as well.
Either way, it’s creative, a quick read and a neat way to illustrate the ever growing vegan cause ; )
