Pack the Right Medical Kit Before You Travel

Pack the Right Medical Kit Before You TravelTraveling is always a fun and exciting idea. Families travel around the country for camping trips, vacations and sometimes just family reunions. Other people are traveling all over for business trips. Whether for fun or for work, being prepared is key when going on any trip.

Packing a medical kit before you leave is crucial to helping you avoid problems when on the road. There are a few items that you should keep in mind when going on a trip. Camping, skiing, and other adventures can have dangers and you should take precautions when traveling. You can enjoy your trip and relax knowing you are prepared for whatever might come your way.

Get the Bare Necessities

Knowing what you need to pack might seem overwhelming. While there are a lot of things you could put in your pack, there are some necessities that you do not need to be without. First, here are a few common items you should keep on hand: bandages, adhesive tape, antibiotic ointment and gloves are essential. These help with all those small scrapes and some larger cuts you might have while out in the woods on your camping trip. Scissors and safety pins are also a good idea. Cotton balls or swabs are great in case you need to apply medicines.

Extra Medication

Make sure you pack extra doses of any medication you might be on. This will help in case something happens to your regular supply or you are gone longer than anticipated. Other medicines that are great to keep in your kit include aloe vera, anti-diarrhea medication, calamine lotion and antihistamines. These are all great in case you run into poison ivy or poison oak, or you just get a bad sunburn. This is also the time to add copies of your insurance information and consent forms for treatment. If something happens and you are unable to speak, the emergency responders will have what they need.

Specialty Items

There are also specialty items that may be required when packing a kit. If you or someone in your party have a special medical condition be sure that all supplies needed are packed. For example, a diabetic on insulin should make sure that glucose tables are available and that they have all supplies for insulin they need. AED Brands is a great place to look for any type of specialized equipment for your medical kit such as defibrillators. Some schools and sporting complexes are keeping these on hand as the need may arise.

Pack extra batteries and an emergency cell phone. This will be one used only for an emergency call that stays charged up at all times. That way if you are out in the woods you know you have a back up phone should you need it. Be sure that when you go traveling, whether for pleasure or business, that you take a properly packed medical kit with you. You also should consider one in your home and in your car for emergencies. You never know when you might need one. This will give you peace of mind that no matter where you are you’re prepared for common emergencies.
