I was so excited to be invited to the Mazola event at Hispanicize as I’ve always been a huge fan of Ingrid Hoffman as well as the brand. Having grown up with my grandmother and my mother cooking, Mazola was always a staple in our kitchen so it was a super fun combo event!
The intimate event featured Ingrid cooking up a delicious dish while also sharing her personal stories about keeping Latino traditions alive in the kitchen. She is Colombian, like me, so her message as well as Mazola’s message really resonated with me. Being Latina in America, sometimes it’s easy to forget and lose parts of my culture that were very prevalent as a child when I was with my family. I love the idea of keeping tradition alive through cooking!
A recent study conducted by Florida State University (FSU) found the majority of Latina mothers (over 80 percent) value passing down family history to their children through cooking . Keeping to authentic ingredients, like Mazola® Corn Oil, and following the recipes passed down by their mothers and grandmothers, was found to be essential to preserving traditions and ensuring the flavors they expect in their dishes. More than half (57 percent) of Latina moms participating in the study agreed it was risky to change ingredients in recipes handed down from generation to generation. Among ingredients considered essential, corn oil topped the list, coming in second only to cilantro.
It is so true, at least when it comes to the recipes I make and I hope to pass them on to my kids someday as well.
Additionally, I received New Mazola® SobrecitosTM bouillon packets dissolve completely and instantly, offering busy Latinas extra convenience and confidence in the kitchen from knowing you can easily add flavor to your recipes without the worry of leaving chunks of salty bouillon in your food. They are made with all natural sea salt and are cholesterol and fat free. Available in Tomato flavor, they are a perfect measure of taste that shows your family how much you care.
Keep up with Mazola en Español on Facebook for great tips, recipe and more!
