It’s a very personal question, but one that must be asked: how often do you launder your bed sheets? The chances are that it is not as often as you should do. There are lots of factors that affect the necessity for changing bed sheets. Do you sleep naked? Have you been ill recently? Do you have breakfast in bed? Do you shower before you get into bed? Your lifestyle dictates the timetable for change!
As a general rule, you should change your bedding weekly for hygiene reasons, but circumstances may lead to a delay. By not washing your bedding regularly you are potentially storing a whole host of health problems, but how do you wash your bed linens correctly to avoid suffering from allergies or even asthma?
1. Separate your bed linens from the general washing
Keep your bed linens separate from your day-to-day washing. This ensures that your sheets are not contaminated by pollutants that you may have picked up outside of the home, for example, mud from trousers or oils from overalls.
2. Use a warm heat (rather than hot)
Turn your washing machine dial to a lower heat. Washing on a high temperature can shrink the material’s fibers and limit the life of your bedding. Make sure that use a quality detergent that can work well in low temperatures, add a suitable fabric softener to help eliminate static and creases.
3. Wash prints or colors inside out
To retain the color or print of your bedding, ensure that you wash them inside out. This reduces the friction against the other washing and should ensure the longevity of the print and color. You should also wash any delicate lace or trimmed bed sheets this way.
4. Treat stains prior to washing
You should treat stains in a manner appropriate to the source! Different stains require different treatments. If you have white or light-colored sheets, use oxygenated bleach on tough stains. Also, remember that cosmetics and lotions often contain chemicals that cause discoloration and bleach sheets and pillows.
Frequent washing will eventually break down even the highest quality of sheets, and you must replace them when you see signs of aging: faded patterns or excessive staining. When replacing your bed lined, choose a quality fabric such as ranforce cotton which is of high density and gives strength, yet it is delicate and soft.
It does not have to cost the earth to replace your bedding; have a look at the Threel online shop which offers not only ranforce cotton bed linen at prices for all budgets, but a large selection of colors and designs in 3D bamboo and 3D luxury sateen too. The decision for choosing the perfect fabric for your bed linen can only be based on your lifestyle and personal preference, but breathability and the fabric’s temperature regulating properties must be considered.
By following the points above, you should manage to reduce the risk of suffering from asthma, rhinitis and itching eyes caused by not laundering your bed sheets regularly and correctly. You will also enjoy the benefit of getting a better night’s sleep!

Thank you for interesting article – have found a lot of valuable advises.
I’ve found out that instead of washing bed linens every week you can use steamer and “refresh” it from time to time (if it hasn’t got any stains).
