How to Travel Cheap: Simple Tips to Better Afford Your Next Adventure!

How to Travel Cheap Simple Tips to Better Afford Your Next Adventure! The average cost of a vacation is a little over $1,100 per person. This includes the cost of things like airfare, lodging, and food.

If that number leaves you feeling a little nauseated, don’t worry.

You don’t have to give up on your travel dreams. With a little planning, you can spend way less than this and still explore the world.

Read on to learn more about how to travel cheap when taking your next big adventure.

Be Flexible with Your Travel Days

You can save a lot of money on flights if you’re willing to travel on less popular days.

Airports are almost always going to be more crowded on weekends, and flights will be more expensive as a result.

To avoid these higher prices, consider flying out on a weekday. It might take a little work to rearrange your schedule, but it’ll be worth it if it allows you to save some money on and flight.

As an added bonus, you also get to enjoy a less crowded and hectic airport experience — it’s a win-win!

Venture Off the Beaten Path

You’ll often find that flights to popular travel destinations like Paris or Rome are going to be more expensive.

If you want to save money and see somewhere new, don’t be afraid to explore and go somewhere you’ve never heard of before.

You might discover a hidden gem, and you’ll still get to enjoy being in a new place and learning about new cultures and customs.

If you’re taking the road less traveled, you also are less likely to have to deal with hoards of tourists.

Travel During the Low Season

Avoid traveling during the peak travel season in order to save money and avoid crowds. If you have your heart set on a particular destination, find out when its low season is and plan your trip for that time.

You’ll find that it’s much cheaper to travel this time, and you might discover new things about the area that other people don’t when they visit during peak travel times.

Take the Train

Depending on where you’re traveling, you might be better off taking the train instead of flying.

Taking the train takes longer, of course, but it’s less expensive and less of a hassle since you don’t have to go through airport security.

You also get to see more of the country when you travel this way.

Bring Your Own Food

If you are going to fly, don’t get sucked into buying expensive airport food. Instead, pack your own meal or snack to eat at the gate or on the plane. This will help you save money, and it’s often a lot healthier.

You can bring your own prepared food through airport security checkpoints without any problems as long as there aren’t any liquids.

Skip the Checked Bag

If possible, try to fit everything you need in a carry-on.

Stock up on mini toiletries that are carry-on approved (or skip them and buy new ones from a local drug store when you reach your destination) and pack light so you don’t have to worry about checking a bag.

This saves you some cash, and it shields you from the possibility of your bag getting lost on its way to your destination. Just make sure you leave enough room for any souvenirs you bring back!

Stay Outside the City

When you’re choosing a place to stay, try to find a location outside of the city center. When you stay a little way out of the city, you can often find more affordable lodging options.

Before you settle on a place, though, make sure you have a plan for how you’re going to get into the city. Find out how affordable Ubers or taxis are, or look into more eco-friendly travel options like bikes or public transportation.

Eat and Shop Like a Local

Seek out local favorites when you want to enjoy a meal out. You’ll find lots of great places that are much more affordable than the restaurants that market to tourists.

The same goes for shopping for souvenirs.

Stay away from tourist traps and look for the places where locals like to shop. You’ll be able to find some awesome pieces this way and will get to avoid spending more than you want to (or should) for them.

Skip Hotels

Hotels are expensive, especially if you want to stay in a semi-nice one.

Avoid paying exorbitant fees for a hotel room and go with an option like Airbnb instead. You can even use a group Airbnb to save even more money.

The great thing about this option, in addition to helping you save money on lodging, is that you can also save money on food.

Most places will have refrigerators where you can store your groceries and kitchens where you can prepare meals for yourself. This will help you cut back on your food spending quite a bit.

Use Loans Wisely

If you have to get to a particular destination and need the money to get there right away, small online loans can help you get where you need to be. Use these loans wisely, though.

Jora credit recommends sticking with a small loan and avoiding borrowing more money than you need to get to your destination.

Make sure you have a repayment plan in place and read the loan terms carefully before agreeing to them. This will help you avoid racking up a ton of debt and trashing your credit score.

You Know How to Travel Cheap: Time to Start Planning!

As you can see, it’s definitely not impossible to travel the world while sticking to a budget.

Keep these tips on how to travel cheap in mind as you begin planning your next trip and you’ll have no trouble saving money while still having a great time.
