So you’re going away on a Fall vacation, yay! However, this time of year, it’s tough to tell if you will need light sweaters or full on parkas to stay warm. The key to all of this, and not overpacking, is choosing clothes that easily layer.
From nice light blouses that go well with skirts or jeans to cardigans that are light enough to not bulk up under a jacket, mixing and matching your wardrobe saves space and also allows you to wear as many items as necessary depending on how far the mercury drops. Plus, it helps keep your baggage light and manageable so you don’t get dinged at the gate for overweight or extra bag fees. Save space, time, money and warmth by learning what and how to pack!
Footwear
Comfortable footwear is uber important when traveling because walking is a big part of site seeing. Sure, you want to look cute but heels and cute shoes may not be very walking friendly.
When planning your footwear choices for a Fall trip here’s what should go in your suitcase:
- Your fave flat boots – They go with jeans and skirts and are simple to kick off at TSA while also keeping you warm. Wear them during flights so as to not take up to much room in your bag.
- One pair of heels – These will be your go-to “dress up” shoes for a night out or nice dinner. You can stay warm by wearing them with cute tights, a skirt and a nice trench.
- A comfy pair of neutral flats – Be they loafers or ballet flats, you want a nice neutral pair of flats that are super comfy and match most of what you’ve packed.
- One pair of sneakers – Great if you are planning on doing any “off road” walking or biking and you can also use them in your hotel gym.
Tops & Bottoms
Do yourself a favor and bring comfortable clothing that is easy to dress up or down.
It’s always good to bring a couple of t-shirts, 1 with a fun pattern and 2 solid neutrals. Same with blouses as you can have about 7 tops and mix and matchthem with one skirt as well as one pair of jeans or slacks.
It’s also fun to bring a nice maxi dress that is nice on it’s own or you can throw one or more of your top choices over it to make it a whole new outfit. Plus you can take a maxi dress from day to night with just a swap of your shoes and jewelry!
Outerwear
While it might be tempting to want to bring big, heavy jackets with you, it may not be necessary if you pack some good layering options.
Start by having a couple long sleeve top options and a light neutral sweater or cardigan option. Then, when it gets chilly, you can throw own a great trench that not only keeps you warm but also stylish! Perfect with the one or 2 scarf options you throw in your bag, plus your cool boots and without hauling your whole Fall wardrobe with you, you’re lookin’ good and feelin’ great!
