homeWith the year coming to an end, you may be looking for ways to improve your home and make it healthier. Below are five ideas that you can implement right away to make your home healthier and make you love it even more than you currently do.

Have Your Home Inspected

The first thing that you can do is to have your home inspected by an expert. With almost one in every 15 homes in the U.S. estimated to have radon levels that are either above or at the action level recommended by the EPA, it’s advisable to ensure that yours is safe. Find an expert online and hire them, and have them test for other pollutants as well, so you’re sure of the state of your home. Doing this will help you know the steps to take to make your home a safe haven for your entire family.

Go Green

To make sure you’re playing your role in keeping the environment in good health, consider going green. Shop for green cleaning solutions so you don’t have to use chemical-laden ones anymore. Find natural fertilizers for your lawn as well, so that you can help it thrive naturally. As you form such habits, you will start to leave a smaller carbon footprint. You will also help your children learn how to use sustainable solutions when they become adults, because children learn best by following the examples you set for them.

Exercise At Home

Rather than pay for a gym membership, you can start to exercise at home. Buy some exercise equipment and set it up in your home if you have space, either in a spare room or even the attic if it’s big enough. With the swimming pool industry expected to grow 25.1% in 2021, you can also find a qualified contractor to install a swimming pool for you. As one of the easiest and most fun ways to exercise, you will have a great time as a family going for a swim whenever the weather allows. You will also have increased the value of your home, and who wouldn’t want to own one of the most prime homes in the neighborhood?

Declutter

Another way to improve the overall health of your family at home is by decluttering. Spare a day or a week to collect the items you no longer use around your home. You can either donate them or sell them, using the money you get to buy something that the whole family can enjoy. You will all feel a lot better when your home is no longer crowded with things that you don’t use, and you actually have more space to enjoy the things that you use. While you’re at it, you can rearrange your home to fit your ideal aesthetic, and as the seasons change, you will be happy to usher in the new season in a home that feels new.

Improve Your Landscape

The final suggestion for improving your home’s health is to start a garden. With 42% of the people who spend time gardening while at home saying in a survey that they felt happy and healthy, this may be the turnaround you need. Since it’s a fulfilling hobby, it’s going to leave you happy and gratified while improving the aesthetics of your outdoors. Make sure to research the best things to grow in each season and in your specific area so that you can keep a successful garden.

With these five ideas, you’re well-armed to improve your home’s health this winter. Start now so that you can try them all, and everyone in your home will feel like a brand new person as the seasons change!

Thank you for sharing such helpful content!
Another thing you can do to make your home more healthy is to check HVAC filters. Over time, air conditioners and furnaces filters accumulate lots of dust and allergens. Dirty filters can cause poor indoor air quality, which is very bad for your health. Clean or change filters at least once every three months to prevent this problem.

Thank you for sharing such helpful tips! I would also like to suggest looking at your windows. Condensation and mold often form on low-quality and old windows. This worsens the air quality and poses a threat to health. If you can see condensation or mold on your windows, consider a replacement. Even though it may seem quite expensive to replace and install them, you should remember that it will definitely pay off by reducing your utility bills. Yes, air leaks through windows can account for 30% of your home’s heat.

Good tips! I especially love the idea of installing a swimming pool. It is hardly a good option just to increase the value of your home because it doesn’t pay off when selling a house. But from a health point of view, it’s worth doing. While you swim, all your muscles are working, but at the same time, it doesn’t stress your body the way jogging or strength workouts do. Additionally, swimming benefits your mental health by relieving stress and making you relax.
