Five Top Tips for Eating on Your Yacht Charter

A yacht charter vacation is known for its decadence and luxury, and this includes your choice of dining. Even if you’ve visited some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world, you can still expect to be blown away by the food you eat when on a yacht charter.

With many yacht charter experiences offering personalized menus that are prepared by five-star chefs, your tastebuds will be screaming with delight.

Here are five top tips for eating on your yacht charter that promise to help you make the most of this indulgent experience.

  • Ask to see sample menus

Before you book a yacht charter and the chef that comes with it, make sure you ask to see some sample menus so you can see if they create the sort of dishes that you like.

It can be useful to ask for a selection of formal and informal menus as you’re likely to want both when at sea.

  • Complete a food preference sheet

Ahead of your trip, you need to complete a food preference sheet, as this will help the chef to make meals you’re guaranteed to like. When completing this, make sure you take everyone’s food preferences into account, not just your own.

Try to include the types of foods you like and dislike, as well as anything you would like to try for the first time.

  • Inform the chef about any dietary requirements

It’s vital that you tell the chef about any dietary requirements as far in advance as possible so they can start to put together suitable menus and source suitable ingredients.

For example, they’ll need to know if anyone follows a vegetarian, vegan, dairy-, or gluten-free diet. Also, let them know if any member of your party has any allergies and how severe they are.

  • Make alcohol requests in advance

Do you have a favorite wine or spirit? Maybe you want to enjoy sipping a specific cocktail on the deck? If you have any preferences when it comes to alcohol, you should make the chef aware of these in advance.

If you or anyone in your party drinks wine, it can be helpful to specify by vintage and label so you can guarantee that a few bottles will be waiting for you upon arrival.

  • Embrace specialty equipment

When you’re visiting a new place, you should try and embrace all the traditions and delicacies that are on offer. For example, if you’re on a Greece yacht vacation with family, you should try Greek dishes, such as dolmades.

You may also want to ask your chef if they have any specialty equipment on board to facilitate the sampling of new cuisines, such as a fondu pot or a teriyaki grill.

Final thoughts

There’s nothing quite like dining on a luxury yacht surrounded by the ocean and the stars, and you can make this experience even better with the right on-board chef. By following the above advice, you’re guaranteed to have a memorable trip, although, be warned, you may come home a few pounds heavier!
