Advice on Caring For Your Skin and Teeth

Taking better care of your skin and teeth can give you a boost in self-confidence. However, it can also have a positive impact on your health and well-being.

If you’re not giving your smile or your skin the care that it needs, now is the perfect time to make some changes. These tips will help you develop healthier habits.

Wash Your Hands Before Touching Your Face

According to Comanche County Memorial Hospital, our hands are exposed to around 840,000 germs per half hour. If you touch your face without washing your hands, you could transfer those germs and bacteria to your skin! That bacteria could cause pimples or other skin irritations.

That’s why you should get in the habit of washing your hands every time you touch your face. When you wash your hands, make sure you scrub them with soap for at least 20 seconds before you rinse them off. Use your fingers to rub your palms to ensure that your hands are completely clean.

Eat a Balanced Diet

The foods that you eat can have a direct impact on the health of your skin and hair! That’s why it’s so important to eat a nutritious diet that will provide your body with everything it needs to thrive. Try to include lots of whole foods, like fruits and vegetables, in your diet.

In addition to eating plenty of healthy foods, try to limit your intake of foods that could damage your skin or teeth. Sugar can contribute to tooth decay, which is why it’s a good idea to cut back on sweets. It’s also a good idea to eat fewer processed foods. Make meals from scratch whenever you can!

Create a Skincare Routine

Statistics from the Academy Association of Dermatology state that around 85% of people between 12 and 24 will experience at least some acne. A regular skincare routine can help you maintain a healthy skin biome, which can reduce the risk of acne. Even if you have clear skin, a regular routine will keep your skin in great shape.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple routine that includes a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF will work well for most people. Don’t hesitate to make an appointment with a dermatologist if you need skincare advice.

Improve Your Sleep Hygiene

When you don’t get enough sleep, your cortisol levels rise, which can cause skin inflammation. Not only can a lack of sleep be harmful to your skin, but it can damage your teeth as well. You’re more likely to grind your teeth at night if you’re not getting enough rest.

If you’re struggling to get enough sleep each night, it’s a good idea to change your sleep habits. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. Stop using your phone before bed and sleep in a cool, dark environment. After you make a few changes, you may find that it’s much easier to settle down to sleep at night.

Brush and Floss Twice a Day

When we eat, plaque and tartar can build up on our teeth. Not only can this damage our teeth, but it can also be harmful to our gums! Data from the CDC shows that around 46% of adults above the age of 30 have signs of gum disease.

While tooth decay and gum disease are serious issues, they’re preventable problems. Get in the habit of brushing and flossing your teeth when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. You may also want to use an antibacterial mouthwash to keep your mouth clean!

This expert dentist in Gloucester VA also recommends visiting a dental professional regularly. At the very least, you should get your teeth checked every 6 months.

When you practice self-care, you should make sure that you’re not neglecting skincare or your oral health. Keep in mind that your entire body is connected. If you want to take better care of yourself, you need to spend time caring for each and every part of your body.
