The Hidden Risks That Come With Hearing Loss

hearing lossMany specialists believe that hearing loss is a normal natural part of aging. Even though it can be distressing and isolating, there are numerous solutions to help with this problem, especially with modern technology today.

Your hearing ability has a significant impact on your health and daily life. Sadly, not enough people with hearing problems seek care and treatment for their problems. This further puts them at risk of developing more health issues. However, if you find yourself in this predicament, you can look for a suitable treatment for your hearing loss with the help of a skilled hearing equipment specialist.

Denial is dangerous

Typically, this problem is prevalent in most of the people from the older generations. A patient who’s in denial may argue that other people mumble and talk too fast or quietly, or that they hear what you are saying but are choosing not to respond. That’s why they avoid the topic of their hearing problems and go untreated for at least a couple of years.

If you know someone who is in denial of their hearing loss, you should be sympathetic and understand that confessing to a problem is tough. If you bring up the subject of hearing loss, do so without guilt, criticism, or blame, and if they start talking about treatment, give them the needed support. The faster they accept that they have a problem with their hearing, the less likely it is for them to suffer major emotional turmoil that comes with the realization of a hearing problem.

Not only can denying hearing loss lead to social isolation but isolating can lead to more serious problems like dementia. The balance centers that are in the ear may also stop working and this can further lead to dangerous falls. To prevent other problems from happening, accept your problem and get the help needed for your hearing loss as soon as possible.

Hearing aid myths

If you think that hearing aids are still big and confusing, forget everything you heard a couple of decades ago. Today, hearing aids are part of everything modern technology has to offer. If you don’t want people to know you wear hearing aids, many of the hearing aid options are so small that you can conceal them easily.

Hearing aid users, on average, wait ten years to get help for their hearing problems. However, communicating with loved ones becomes increasingly difficult during this time, and isolation and potential health risks rise.

It’s natural to be concerned that hearing loss indicates aging and try to conceal it. If you are someone who experiences hearing loss and is afraid that hearing loss indicates that you are aging, remember that many young people experience this problem and wear hearing aids on a daily basis.

Many persons with hearing impairments prefer to sit silently rather than participate in conversations and events because they are afraid that their hearing disability will make them appear helpless or incompetent. The truth is that socializing with people might help your mind stay younger, sharper, and more engaged in life.

Comorbidity

Diabetes has been linked to a reduction in blood supply to parts of the ear, which could lead to hearing loss. Hearing loss could be a key sign of diabetes. If you don’t have any other problems except for your hearing loss, your diabetes could go unnoticed for a long time, putting your health at risk. When you seek assistance from an audiologist, they will be able to determine the type of hearing impairment you have and which conditions may be associated with it.

Although the connection between hearing loss, cardiovascular problems and diabetes isn’t entirely understood, it continues to occur. Hearing loss has been linked to a higher risk of heart disease in persons with than in those who do not have hearing loss, according to studies. It’s unclear if hearing loss raises the possibility of heart problems or whether cardiovascular problems increase the risk of acquiring hearing loss. Getting aid for your hearing loss can help you determine which issue came first.

Final thoughts

Hearing loss is more than simply a medical problem; it affects a patient’s entire way of life. It commonly progresses without treatment to the point that the patient can no longer hear faint noises, barely hear conversations, or cannot hear at all.  Even when people are aware of the risks, they may postpone treatment for years.

If you’re someone that has problems hearing and refuses to get treatment, reconsider your judgment. Getting help will make your life easier and prevent you from further health complications.

Making beaded earrings is quite easy. However, you will need to have some special materials ready before you get started. You will probably need to visit a craft store to find everything, or you can order your materials online.

Endpins (These are also known as headpins and look like a straight wire with a small button at the end.) Endpins are available in various thicknesses to accommodate different sizes of beads. Sometimes you will see the thickness mentioned by gauge (ga) on the packaging. In this case, a larger number (for example, 24 ga) indicates a thinner endpin, while a smaller number (for example, 20 ga) indicates a thicker headpin.
