fitness regimeTestosterone is the male sex hormone and affects many of the body’s different processes. Both men and women have testosterone, but in women it is produced in smaller amounts. Here are some basic pieces of information about this hormone and how it affects the male body.

Where is it made?

In men, testosterone is made in the testicles and in women, the ovaries. During puberty, the testosterone levels increase to help develop reproductive tissues and other elements of puberty such as body hair and vocal changes. It travels around your body through your bloodstream.

Uses

Testosterone is important and affects the body in many ways. In men, this can include:

  • Libido
  • Sperm production
  • Mood
  • Muscle mass
  • Bone mass
  • Body hair

Deficiencies

Like many hormones, you may experience adverse effects if your body produces too much or too little of them. Low-testosterone can cause many problems within your body, so it is important to visit your doctor and get your testosterone levels tested. There are many therapies and supplements that can help treat and manage your testosterone levels, such as  that by Military Muscle, which is a muscle-building supplement, but it is important to consult your doctor first, as they will be able to give you the best advice.

Low testosterone levels can impact your body in many ways. These include your mood, personality, energy levels and the quality of your sleep. If you have low-testosterone you may feel yourself lacking energy and motivation, and your self-esteem can even decrease. Testosterone is only one factor that can affect your personality and mood, but it is still important to have regular checks and tests at the doctor to keep on top of your body and mind.

Physically, low-testosterone can cause issues such as hair loss, body fat gain and decreased bone density, which may make you more vulnerable to breaks and fractures. Testosterone increases levels of growth hormone within the body, which is why exercise is more likely to contribute to muscle growth. The increased levels of testosterone in men is one reason why they find it easier to build muscle mass than women.

Too much testosterone in the body can also lead to many problems, including insomnia, headaches, mood swings and damage to the heart muscle. Again, it is important to make sure you regularly visit and consult with your doctor before undergoing any treatment or supplements, as they will be able to advise you as to the best course of action.

Issues with the levels of testosterone in your body can be caused by a number of factors. These can include injuries to the testes, genetic diseases, some types of medication or problems with the hypothalamus or pituitary glands. Levels are usually tested with a blood test, and then your doctor can advise you as to what treatments or management solutions will work best for you. This article is not medical advice, it comprises some basic information on testosterone, and your doctor is the best person to consult for any specific information, treatment or questions you may have.
