dentail insuranceDental implants have been around for a long time now, but they are becoming more and more increasingly popular. And, this is because people are starting to realize all the benefits they offer. Sure, they are a complex procedure and cost a bit more, but they can provide a permanent solution to tooth loss. Not only this, but they are without a doubt one of the most natural-looking solutions available on the market today. If you want to keep those pearly whites looking great and natural, you have no better option available to you than dental implants. That being said, before you undergo a procedure like this there are a number of things that you need to be aware of.

You Might Not Qualify

Unfortunately, dental implants in Ottawa are not like getting teeth pulled. Everyone can get a tooth pulled as long as the infection isn’t too bad. Even then, just after a few days of antibiotics and rest, you can go back and after the tooth pulled after the infection and swelling go down. This is not the case with dental implants at all. Dental implants can be for many individuals, but they certainly are not for everyone. In order to qualify, you need to be healthy, not smoke and have enough bone mass to support the implants. Pretty much the only way to discover if you are a viable candidate or not is by speaking with a trained dental professional and having them examine your mouth.

It Will Change Your Diet

Your teeth have so much to do with the way you eat and what you eat. If you have extremely sensitive teeth, you are likely going to avoid hot coffee and cold ice creams. If you have a sore tooth or a gum infection, you might try avoiding eating anything at all. While this is never ideal, it is important to note that your teeth have a major impact on what you eat and when you eat. That being said, so will implants. Luckily, this will be something that is only temporary. In order to support your recovery and to foster successful implant surgery, you’ll have to temporarily change your diet. It will be soft-food for the first two weeks after the procedure and then you will be able to slowly start incorporating other foods back into your regimen. This is extremely important because eating the wrong foods can lead to post-op complications, which is something that every patient wants to avoid at all costs. Wrong foods can also lead to teeth stains but fret not, you can get rid of teeth stains at a dentist Washington Heights.

It Might Be Painful

Depending on your pain threshold, implants might not be right for you. Of course, you will feel little to nothing while the procedure takes place because you will either be numb or completely knocked out. However, it is entirely possible to experience some degree of pain and swelling after the surgery is over. Luckily, this is something that will clear itself up after a few minor weeks. It is also something that can be managed with mild or over the counter pain relievers. Your medical professional might even prescribe pain pills after the surgery. To learn more about potential complications and find out if you’re a suitable candidate or not, you can always visit https://dentaldesigns.com.sg.

Good Oral Hygiene Is A Must Before And After

It might be entirely possible that bad oral hygiene has led you to the point of needing implants. It might be entirely possible that this is not the case at all. Whatever the situation is, it is more than imperative to practice good dental hygiene before and after a procedure like this. After the procedure, it will be paramount to keep the mouth clean and healthy to help avoid any further complications and potential infections. To do this, make sure that you are brushing your teeth gently at least twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water after eating anything sugary can also help. In fact, for the first week, you’ll want to make sure that you are rinsing at least five times a day.

It Is A Long Process

It is also important to know that dental implants are not like other dental procedures. This is a process that will require multiple visits. You’ll have to go in and make sure you qualify, you’ll have to go back in to get teeth pulled, you’ll have to get the implant installed, and then you might have to get the implant covered by gum tissue during the osseointegration stage. It really all depends on your unique situation and condition. Just know that this is a one-time procedure.
