5 Ways To Calm A Nervous Dog

Hiking With PetsIf you’ve ever experienced anxiety yourself, then you’ll know how horrible it is. You may feel nervous, stressed, and it can be so bad that at times you don’t even want to go out. It can have physical effects too. Sadly, we’re not the only ones who suffer from anxiety and stress; dogs can get it also.

Just like us, anxiety can affect dogs differently and in different ways, but it can be tough to watch your pet suffer, so it’s good to find ways you can help them to calm down.

There are many reasons why your dog may be feeling anxious; they may have been abused in the past, they may be scared of loud noises such as thunder or fireworks, they may be afraid of other animals, or they might have medical problems that need to be seen to.

If you have seen the signs that your dog is stressed, then it’s essential to find out why. Once you learn the signs of stress, then it becomes easier to work out the cause, and once you know that, you can take steps to help them and prevent it. If it’s really bad as well, then you might have to see a behavioral therapist or a vet as there are medications that they can take. Also, according to a blog on https://buymyweedonline.ca/indica, many people to give their dogs or cats a daily dose of CBD just like they’d take themselves as this can help a dog with anxiety, cancer pain, arthritis, and seizures.

However, it may not be that easy, so there are times when you need some help to calm your dog down, so here are a few tips that may help you.

Play music

If your dog is suffering from separation anxiety, then playing music for them can help to calm them down. For example, if you play some music for them while you are out, then this often helps them to feel at ease.

Aromatherapy and essential oils

Just like candles and aromatherapy relax us, they work for some dogs are too. There are some balms and sprays specially formulated for pets. You need to rub the spray or formula in between your hands and then pat your palms along your dogs back, just make sure they can’t reach it and lick it off.

Stroke your dog

Sometimes a dog just needs comforting, so sit near them and pet them and see if that helps.

Exercise

Anxiety can sometimes give your dog a load of energy that they don’t know what to do with. Again, just like doctors tell us to exercise to relieve stress, it’s the same for dogs too.

Check your stress levels

It might be that your dog is reacting to your stress, nerves, and anxiety. They can pick up on it, so if you really can’t work out what it is that’s bothering them, maybe have a look at yourself and check that you are not stressed, and if you are, maybe let your dog comfort you and help you to relax.
