californiaIf you’re trying to turn over a new leaf and live healthier, you know all the basics like eating right, exercising often, and getting a good night’s sleep. Though you’re well aware of what to do, you may find obstacles along the way that hinder your goals. Be it the lack of time, limited access to resources, or the pressure of temptations, there’s always something holding you back. Though there are a lot of different factors that could play a role, what if it turned out to be where you live?

Where you live, the atmosphere, the culture, it all plays a role in your ability to live healthily. Think about it… if you live in an area where there aren’t any parks or gyms for miles, will you be as encouraged to drive miles to get to one? Or will you put off working out? If the neighborhood you live in is filled with fast food restaurants and bars, are you inclined to order salads and grilled chicken, or would you find yourself downing some wings or burgers and a keg of beer? If the city you live in has a high cost of living and you’re only making minimum wage, won’t that lead to stress?

If you’ve been unsuccessful in leading a healthier lifestyle, despite your sincerest efforts to try, perhaps you consider moving for your health.

Why California?

Not sure where you should relocate? One of the healthiest states in the US just so happens to be California. Below are some attributes as to why moving to the west coast would be beneficial to your health.

·        It’s Always Sunny – Did you know that sun has been known to improve your mood and reduce symptoms of depression? As it’s always sunny in California, a little sunshine can go a long way to improving your health.

·        All activities are exercise – Who needs the gym when you have outdoor activities year-round? From riding bikes down the boardwalk to participating in water sports and everything in between, those who live in California tend to be more active than in other states.

·        Fresh Produce – The state of California takes pride in its agriculture and strives to encourage healthy living for all their citizens. With most produce locally grown, it is safe to say the foods you’ll indulge in are a lot safer than those in other states.

Tips for Moving to California

Beaches spanning miles along the coast, so many parks you could lose count, tons of outdoor activities, great food, and plenty of sun. If that’s not the recipe for healthy living, who knows what is? If you’re going to move to California, it’s best to do your research first. Below are some tips on how to choose the best part of the state to live in.

·        Visit a few cities – Before you put a deposit on an apartment or house, start by visiting a few cities to see which one fits your style. Staying locally instead of where the tourist commonly stays is recommended so you can get a real taste of what it’d be like as a resident.

·        Search for properties – Once you’ve gotten a taste of what the cities are like you are ready to narrow down your options. Let’s say you liked Calabasas, La Jolla, and San Diego. You’d look for Calabasas homes for sale and contact an experienced realtor, such as those at Berkshire Hathaway, for further assistance. Their team of realtors will help you find the perfect house for you, that is within your current budget.

·        Pay another visit – Once you’ve chosen a few homes you’re interested in, pay another visit to the area. You want to not only get a viewing of the property, but you want to hone in on what the neighborhood is like. Are there healthy restaurants around? Can you get to a park? Is it a good neighborhood for walking? These will all be factors that contribute to your health efforts, so you want to pay close attention.

When it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle, sometimes it’s simply a matter of changing your environment. If you’re really committed to your health and want a change of pace and scenery, consider moving someplace like California. Filled with sunshine, high-energy entertainment, and healthy food options, you’ll have an easier time reaching your goals and becoming the person you always wanted to be.
