anxietyAnxiety can affect every aspect of your life if you allow it to do so. You might be happy to learn there are many things you can do to make the mental health disorder a thing of the past. Find out how to overcome anxiety.

Deep Breathing Techniques

Deep breathing can be an effective way to take control of your anxious feelings. Taking slow, deep breaths from your belly can calm your body down. Simply sit with your eyes closed and focus solely on naturally breathing through your nostrils. Take a deep breath and count to four, then hold your breath to the count of three.

Pay close attention to the sensation of every breath as it both enters and leaves your nostrils. Support the breathing technique by placing one hand on your chest and the other hand on your belly. This will allow you to focus on your breathing, so you can distance yourself from the millions of thoughts dominating your mind and body.

Experience Enough Sleep

Do you often stay up late? Maybe you wake earlier than you need to? Either way, sleep deprivation could be the biggest cause of your anxiety, as it can boost the brain’s anticipatory reactions, which can increase your anxiety levels. While everyone has anticipatory anxiety, some people experience higher levels than others if they are sleep deprived. So, focus on experiencing plenty of quality sleep each night. Focus on Self-Care

Your self-esteem can play havoc with your emotions, so it is possible a lack of confidence could be the culprit of anxiety. That is why it is so important to focus on self-care, so you can feel happier in your own skin. So, treat yourself to a haircut, enjoy a manicure or book a much-needed full-body massage. This will provide the pampering and attention you need to decrease your anxiety levels.

Improve Your Budget

Unfortunately, financial stress can be a major cause of anxiety, stress and depression, as debt will keep people up at night. It can also impact a person’s self-worth and may make them experience feelings of hopelessness. For this reason, you must aim to take control of your finances, so you can improve your bank balance and avoid buying non-essential items or services.

For example, you can start by tracking your daily expenses for a week or more, so you can identify where you overspent or how you are wasting money each month. For example, you might be paying too much for a cable TV package or car insurance deal. You may also be able to renegotiate existing contracts with a provider, so you can pay less each month for a smartphone or internet package.

Use Lavender Oil

Lavender oil can be used as a natural remedy for anxiety, as well as other nervous disorders, as it offers various healing properties. There are also many ways you can use lavender oil to enjoy a calmer lifestyle. For example, you can add a few drops of essential lavender oil into your bath water, which can help to alleviate painful joints and muscles.

You can also add a few drops of lavender oil onto a piece of tissue, which you should place under your pillow to fall asleep easily and ease headaches. It is a muscles relaxant, so you can gently massage it into your skin to reduce the bodily tension caused by anxiety.

Counteract Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts can lead to negative feelings, which can unfortunately lead to negative behavior. It is important to identify negative emotions, which can heighten anxiety, so you can successfully stop them in their tracks. So, whenever you feel stressed out, write down your thoughts and feelings and try to articulate them by saying whether you feel angry, upset, frustrated or defeated. You should then write down why your emotions are wrong, so you can challenge the negative thoughts head on. It can help to put your feelings into perspective, as you may realize you are overreacting, which will allow you to develop a more positive mindset.

Speak to a Therapist

Don’t suffer in silence when living with anxiety. A qualified health professional can help you to effectively overcome anxiety, so you can live your life to the full. They will have the knowledge and experience to help put your emotions into perspective, so you can take back control of your life. Simply airing your emotions could be all it takes to improve your mood and mindset.

Discuss Your Symptoms with a Doctor

In addition to seeking emotional solace from an experienced therapist, you must also visit a doctor if you experience a sudden spike in anxiety, or if you feel you are struggling to cope with the condition. A doctor may be able to identify if there is an underlying medical condition causing you to feel anxious. Request a blood panel to identify the issue, and always be honest with your symptoms to a doctor so they can quickly identify the problem and solution.

Improve Your Diet

Certain foods can cause anxiety to spike. For instance, caffeine is known for triggering panic attacks for people living with an anxiety disorder, and it can also cause heart palpitations. Another ingredient known for causing panic attacks and anxiety is sugar. So, aim to reduce or cut out sugar and caffeine from your diet to improve your central nervous system.

Exercise

Exercise is a natural remedy for anxiety, as it can increase feel-good endorphins in the body whilst clearing the mind. As a result, it can support a good night’s sleep, so you will wake feeling happier and refreshed the next day. Studies have also proven that people who regularly embark on exercise are 25% less likely to experience an anxiety disorder. So, don’t allow your emotions to rule your life and start an exercise that complements your needs and lifestyle, such as running, cycling, boxing, dancing and swimming.
