Back Massager Suffering from back pain is never pleasant, especially if it affects your ability to perform everyday tasks. Perhaps you have been looking into purchasing a back massager but are feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options out there. While they may seem quite similar, there are certain features you’ll want to watch for and be aware of in your shopping experience.

Handheld Massagers vs Massage Cushions

One of the most noticeable differences is that you can find handheld back massagers as well as massage cushions that are placed on your chair. The main difference is that the handheld model requires you, the user, to hold it and move it around, whereas with the massage cushions you just turn it on, have a seat, and let it do the work.

Both of these options offer flexibility and convenience, and they both tend to offer a whole bevy of features and settings. If you happen to have mobility issues, in that you can’t hold a massager and reach your back very easily, then the massage cushion offers additional benefits. Keep in mind that massage cushions tend to have a higher price tag.

One thing to note if you decide you want to try handheld back massagers is that there are corded and cordless options. This could be an important factor in your decision.

Does it Offer Pre-Sets?

Today, you’ll find a wide selection of back massagers that allow you to adjust the intensity of the massage, as well as the massage technique. Ideal pre-sets you should watch for are a Swedish massage setting and a Shiatsu setting. In Swedish massage, it will feel like kneading and long strokes that glide across your back. This particular form of massage is excellent in promoting blood circulation.

Meanwhile, in Shiatsu massage a combination of rotating, rolling, patting, sweeping, and pressing movements are used. It’s effective in treating tension pain.

Using the pre-set also makes sure you get a total massage. They often have a timer setting on them so you don’t have to worry about how long to massage the area.

What About a Heat Setting?

Another feature that you may find is a heat setting. What this means is that you can enjoy the benefits of heat therapy while the massager is working. Heat can be extremely soothing when your back is in pain, and can help the massage itself be more effective. Heat therapy works best for those who suffer from chronic pain, or pain that seems to come and go on its own.

Do I Need Air Compression?

While not as common, some of today’s back massagers also feature air compression. You’ll find this in the cushion massagers. This type of massage is called “compression massage” and is meant to provide deep muscle relief. If you suffer from chronic back pain this feature could be worth it.

Take the Jump and Start Enjoying Relief

By doing your research you’ll be able to find the massager that works best for your needs, allowing you to start enjoying relief from your back pain.
