Although the study shows promise, the team at 121doc has warned people not to jump on the bandwagon too quickly. Though there is good research and there’s potential for the study to be expanded to become more reliable, at this stage it is far too narrow. Based only on 8 men and 10 women with Type 2 Diabetes, the research put forward very likely warrants further study and larger research to verify the results, but assuming anything at this stage with such a small base is premature. The team at 121doc also added that it’s worth bearing in mind that a large breakfast and small evening meal will not suit everyone; although breakfast is often touted as the ‘most important meal of the day’, the simple truth is that many people do not have, or do not make, enough time to do it properly.
Diet is important for everyone, whether they have a condition that is affected by it or not. It is important though for people with diabetes to recognise that there are certain precautions they will need to take. Aside from monitoring their blood sugar levels, it is also important that they consult with their GP in order to work out and plan the diet that will keep them as healthy as possible. A combination of medication and forward planning can ensure that people with diabetes live entirely normal lives – at times it may require an extra trip to the doctor or the hassle of going to get another prescription but it is for the best.
As to the recent study suggesting the big breakfast-small dinner split, it’s recommended that you consult with your doctor first before giving it a go. There is a chance that it will work for you and, in that case, that’s excellent news – but it’s important that you take the necessary precautions. Knowing your condition and knowing your body is a fundamental part of managing diabetes and trying this method could invite risk if it doesn’t work for you.
The truth is that everyone – whether they’re affected by diabetes or not – should be watching and considering what they eat. It often takes a condition to get people to take their day-to-day health seriously, but it shouldn’t be like that. If you have diabetes then it’s important that you look carefully at studies like this to make sure it’s going to be helpful rather than harmful, and in all things it is safest if you first consult with an expert before making any drastic lifestyle changes that might affect your condition.
