Shirts and Shorts
Your shirt needs to let your arms move comfortably. Generally, t-shirts are acceptable clothing for volleyball. You don’t want to wear a shirt that is too small or too short. You should also avoid a shirt that is too loose. Girls will want to wear a sports bra. Other types of bras, like an underwire, won’t provide enough support and can be uncomfortable when playing.
Spandex shorts are ideal for volleyball practice. As with your shirt, you want clothing that doesn’t hinder your movement, so make sure your shorts aren’t going to ride up. Running shorts may be an option, but you should always check with your coach to make sure that you are following the league rules.
Socks and Shoes
You want crew or knee socks, whichever are more comfortable to you. Ankle socks have a tendency to slip down or come off, so they don’t provide enough cushion and may distract you during the game. Both crew and knee socks easily accommodate an ankle brace, making them ideal. That’s why we recommend getting comfy volleyball shoes that can support the socks and make you cozy.
For shoes, when you’re starting out, running shoes are perfectly acceptable. However, at some point, you should consider volleyball shoes from All Volleyball that are designed with the player in mind. The soles are designed for better traction on the court, and the stronger midsoles enhance performance while reducing injury. Running shoes are designed for a forward motion, and don’t take into account the volleyball player’s movements on the field. Volleyball shoes also weigh less than running shoes, even while providing more support where players need it. You will also need fine pads.
Other Accessories
Your hair should be tied up in a ponytail or braid if it is long. Some leagues don’t allow players to wear hair clips, while some permit one or two small hair pins to help keep hair in place. It’s a good idea to check with your coach before getting on the court. Knee pads and elbow pads seem like a good idea, but they can be bulky. Make sure to find pads that are volleyball specific to protect your joints while allowing movement.
You’ll be looking good on the court when you follow these tips to know what’s appropriate when you’re practicing volleyball. You want to stay safe with the right equipment and enjoy the game. It’s more than just a net and a ball. Make sure you have the best clothing to move around and dive for the ball.
