About mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, you’ll find Morro Bay. A great little seaside town that boats a giant rock (like our version of Gibraltar!) The residents are cool and relaxed, just like the otters that inhabit the bay. And with that chill feel comes some good food!
For vegans and vegetarians Shine Cafe is the place for a fully vegan menu. Located next door to Sunshine natural market, you can get the 1-2 punch of a great vegan meal and then stock up on your groceries right after. If you are lucky enough to make it there for brunch, be sure to get their delicious pancakes packed with fruit as well as their tempeh tacos! Their soups change every day so each day you can be surprised by something new and tasty!
If you’re looking for Italian with a view, DiStasio’s is the place for you! Located just up the hill from the shore, the view of the rock is great and the food will delight. With plenty of options for special diets, no one sacrifices diet or flavor for the ambiance! They offer gluten free pasta as well as all sorts of veganizable treats like pasta primavera, pizzas sans cheese and more!
I love starting my mornings when I travel with a latte so I was stoked to find Top Dog Coffee Bar. With lots of alternative milk options and fun gluten free and vegan treats to enjoy with my cup-o-joe, Top Dog is the perfect place for a healthy voyager to start their days!
Looking to dine on the water? Then Frankie & Lola’s Cafe is where you can dine waterfront and grab a bite! Open for breakfast through dinner they have plenty of options for green diners ; ) Their Whodamame Sandwich is yum-o sans tzatziki as is their veganized sweet potato gnocchi!
So if you’re driving up the California coast and want to stop and see the rock, now you know where to get some good grub too! Enjoy!
