4 Health Risks Associated with Undetected Pests in Your Surroundings

natural pest controlPest infestations can happen pretty easily and can stay undetected for long periods of time if you do not notice the signs. One big thing to pay attention to, if you suspect that you have a pest problem, is health problems. Below are four health risks to look out for that can be caused by undetected pests.

Diseases Caused By Bites

A well-known trait of unwanted pests is their affinity for biting or stinging humans. Some pests that are known to transmit diseases through bites are rats or other small rodents, mosquitos, and ticks.

If a pest problem does not get taken care of in a home or other building, the pests may start to get territorial and bite people in their sleep or while they are sitting down. Rats and other small mammals can carry many types of diseases like rabies and insects like mosquitos carry malaria and Zika virus.

Breathing Problems

Many types of household pests like termites and cockroaches generate a lot of dust and debris that can lead to breathing problems. Cockroaches shed their skin a lot and as it breaks down and turns into dust, that dust floats around the house and can be breathed in.

Likewise, termites nibble away at parts of the house like beams, baseboards, and walls. This spreads microparticles all around the home without the inhabitants even knowing. In the long run, this will cause major breathing problems, especially for people who have pre-existing conditions like asthma. If you notice that your breathing becomes worse when you are at home, check for signs of pest infestations and find a good pest control company in Sydney, or in the area in your proximity, to come and clear out your house. The home is meant to be a safe place, free from toxins, so make sure that you are staying aware of possible pests hanging out in the hidden parts of your house.

Allergic Reactions

Allergic reactions can vary from person to person, but the most common occurrences happen from bug bites and stings or exposure to airborne particles from certain pests.

If insects like wasps have begun to make a home in the attic or other hidden places of a house, they will start to venture out and sometimes attack humans who get too close to their nest. Many people have bad allergies to bug bites and could suffer serious allergic reactions.

Rats and other rodents can also cause airborne allergies from the dander that comes off of their fur. They are also known to burrow, so their digging can stir up a lot of dust in the house, causing hay fever and other symptoms like coughing and sneezing.

Illnesses From Droppings

This category of health risk may be the most dangerous but also probably the easiest to detect. Animal droppings in a home or workplace are a sure sign of a pest infestation and if accidentally touched, could cause serious infection and disease. If you find rat droppings on the ground, countertops, or in cabinets, make sure to take lots of precautions when removing them.

The best way to prevent infection and illness is to use gloves, disinfect the area where the droppings were found, and throw away anything edible that was near the area.

A pest infestation is an inconvenience at best and a huge health risk at worst, so make sure to check your home or workplace for signs of infestation regularly in order to avoid any of the health risks listed above.
