Waterbeds Are Back And Improved: Should You Give Them Another Chance?

waterbedIt is fair to say that the popularity of waterbeds suffered when the public perception of how watertight they were and even how comfortable they were, took a negative downturn.

Rather like a lot of new inventions, the early versions of a product often show that there is room for improvement in areas like design, quality and reliability.

When you take a look at the current range offered by Boyd Waterbeds for example, you can instantly see that today’s modern waterbed, which benefits from many years of improvements along the way, bears little resemblance to its predecessors.

Waterbeds are definitely back and when you consider the prospect of a comfortable good night’s sleep on a warm and soft waterbed, should you give them another chance to win you over?

Why you might want a waterbed

One of the primary reasons why people decide to get themselves a waterbed, is because they believe that is an option that offers you the chance to experience a very comfortable sleeping surface, that won’t break the bank.

There are three definite factors that you will want to take into consideration when considering the option of buying waterbed. The three boxes that you want to tick are comfort, durability and strength.

Waterbeds are no different to the process of buying a standard mattress. When you are looking to buy a waterbed, aim to buy the best quality bed available, preferably one which offer you a decent number of layers of fiber as part of its construction.

Modern technology has made a substantial difference to the quality and performance of waterbeds, and you can now buy one of these beds, knowing that you can achieve one of the healthiest support options for your body when sleeping, plus a high level of comfort and durability.

Worried about a leak?

One of the most common concerns raised about a waterbed, is the worry that you could accidentally damage the waterbed and end up with a big water problem in your bedroom as a result.

This is where massive improvements have definitely been made. Most of the quality waterbeds available today, contain a built in vinyl safety liner. This is designed to capture any leaks within the liner, so even if you somehow managed to puncture the tough exterior, this will not result in an external leak that permeates outside of the frame.

In the unlikely event of some minor tears or damage occurring, you can often easily repair any damage using a vinyl repair kit. If you are still concerned, just remember that a modern waterbed is constructed in a way that means they are free from any internal pressure.

To allay your concerns, you could conceivably open the fill valve and sit on the waterbed without losing any water, so you should not be concerned about your waterbed springing any sort of major leak.

Weight bearing concerns

Another concern that has been raised in the past, is whether the amount of weight a bed filled with water might be applying to your floor.

There is no cause for concern on this front, as the design of the bed ensures that the weight of the water is distributed evenly over the floor space in your bedroom, so unless your floorboards are completely rotten, in which case anything or anyone could fall through them, buying a waterbed won’t create any undue pressure or weight bearing issues.

Health benefits

Another persuasive argument in favor of choosing a waterbed, is the fact that it can offer you some health benefits if you are suffering from aches and pains or allergies.

The vast majority of us have experienced back pain at some point in our lives and there are plenty of us who have to contend with backache on a daily basis. Many lower and upper back problems can be attributed to or worsened by a poor sleeping position. A waterbed has the ability to act as a natural alternative to an orthopedic bed, providing support just where it is needed on your back.

Asthma and allergy sufferers should definitely think about whether a waterbed could be a good option for them, as it could offer a healthier alternative to a regular mattress. Dust mites are well-known for setting up residence in your mattress if they get the chance, which plays havoc with your allergies, whereas with a waterbed, it is easier to keep clean as you can simply wipe and sanitize the surface of the mattress.

All things considered, waterbeds now offer a sensible, comfortable and reliable solution, if you are looking for a restful night’s sleep, and they are certainly making a loud comeback.

My bed is rather stiff, so I’ve been thinking of getting a waterbed to help me sleep better. It’s so cool that most waterbeds has a vinyl safety liner, so you don’t need to worry about your water bed leaking. Where can I learn even more about waterbeds and their benefits?
