This month, Von’s Safeway is hosting a very important campaign, Hunger Is, to build awareness of childhood hunger in America. Did you know that 1 in 5 children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food? It is staggering that in our own back yard, children across the nation are struggling with something so basic and necessary. That’s why I am so proud to be helping promote this worthy cause.
Von’s Safeway will be having a national “Hunger Is” campaign from September 1st through September 30th, 2016 to aid childhood hunger efforts in America. This program is designed to raise awareness and funds to improve healthy outcomes for hungry children and their families; specifically focusing on expanding breakfast programs.
The stunning facts are that 10 million children; nearly half of eligible children do not receive free or reduced price school breakfast. And 3 out of 5 K-8 public school teachers report regularly seeing students coming to school hungry.
In Partnership with Von’s Safeway, Hunger Is is focusing on expanding breakfast programs, providing children with healthy start to their day to help “Make Breakfast Happen So Kids Can Be Hungry For More”! All stores are committed to this cause in every market.
How can you participate?
1. Purchase participating items (*purchase of this item in September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million) – Look for tags on participating items in store
2. Donate at the register – shoppers can add a $1, $3, or $5, or any $ amount to their purchase.
We all need to shop so this month, be sure to shop at your local Von’s, Safeway and/or Pavillion’s and support the Hunger Is campaign. It’s so easy and will help needy children across our great nation in a most wonderful way!
