The Technology Behind How They Make CBD Oil

CBD OilCannabidiol (CBD) is one of the chemical compounds found in marijuana. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is different from CBD as the former compound is responsible for giving a smoker’s ‘high.’ CBD, on the other hand, may present users with health benefits.

It’s essential to know the technology used in the extraction of CBD oil to gain a better understanding of its advantages. It is also important to understand the different types of cannabis products themselves, such as bubble hash vs rosin, and their different effects. This can help to further understand how the products are made. Here are a few extraction methods used in the creation of CBD oil.

1. Thermal Extraction

Modern CBD oil extraction methods allow the manufacturing of this product for different users. Producers now create quality CBD oil for both human and pet consumption. Specific companies use patented water vapor extraction machines to take out the oil from marijuana plants.

Manufacturers use devices to heat and condense air to vaporize THC. Then, these machines carefully extract the CBD found in THC. The resulting product may become the best CBD oil since it won’t contain any trace of the psychoactive compound.

Also, it’s important to note that CBD products should contain less than 3% THC. Otherwise, specific local laws may halt the production and use of any CBD product with over 3% THC content.

2. CO2 Extraction

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) CBD oil extraction uses supercritical removal methods to create a pure end product. Manufacturers use machines that pressurize CO2 to pull CBD from the marijuana plant. The resulting product is like a solvent that went through specific temperatures and pressures.

Using the supercritical method can help bring out good CBD oil for health benefits. Like the oil produced by thermal extraction, CBD oil coming from the supercritical CO2 removal method won’t have traces of THC. Hence, consumers who are sensitive to THC won’t have to worry about using CBD oil extracted with this removal method.

The idea of using this extraction method is to turn CO2 from gas to liquid. Manufacturers ensure the temperature drop below the -69-degree Fahrenheit mark. Also, technicians increase the pressure over 75 pounds per square inch (psi). The result is a pure CBD oil coming out of the marijuana plant.

3. Ethanol or Olive Oil Extraction

Ethanol is an approved chemical by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It’s a compound safe for human consumption but at a specific consistency and potency. This chemical is a general-purpose solvent used in many products to help improve the quality of life. Also, it’s a compound usable in the extraction of CBD from marijuana plants.

CBD oil manufacturers use ethanol because of its water-soluble properties. Hence, it’ll easily dissolve chlorophyll because of its molecular structure. The resulting CBD oil may taste grassy and bitter, but it should produce a product with minimal traces of THC.

Aside from using ethanol, CBD oil producers may also take advantage of olive oil. Using this method over ethanol extraction may prove preferable for individual companies. The reason behind this thought is because the process of heating olive oil may be easier than raising the temperature of ethanol.

Manufacturers heat olive oil to 200 degrees Fahrenheit before filtering the extracts. While it’s easier to use olive oil over ethanol, the CBD oil extracted may have less potency. Hence, consumers may need to take larger doses if the oil comes from the olive oil extraction method.

4. Dry Ice Extraction

Certain CBD oil manufacturers use dry ice to remove the chemical compound from marijuana plants. Despite the process being capable of delivering high-quality CBD oil, the procedure may require more time and effort than other methods. Producers use essential equipment like dry ice, bubble hash mesh bags, and large jars for the extraction.

A primary advantage of using this particular CBD oil extraction method is its ease of use. Although it doesn’t require heavy machinery to use, the dry ice extraction process may not be ideal for consumers looking for high-quality CBD oil. Also, dry ice may be a difficult-to-find commodity depending on where you live.

5. Decarboxylation

Cannabinoids found in a cannabis plant come in acid forms. Introducing low temperatures to the plant will preserve the cannabinoids while preparing these compounds for extraction. The process will also remove the acid molecule while manufacturers heat the extract using specific temperatures.

The product is the result of ‘activated’ molecules that interact with the body than non-acid forms. Hence, the CBD oil removed from the cannabis plant contains high-quality components that may help improve health concerns.

Conclusion

Many benefits await consumers who wish to use CBD oil. When appropriately extracted, CBD oil may help improve symptoms from specific health issues. For instance, it may help improve epilepsy and muscle spasms. Still, always consult with your doctor before attempting to use this product.
