fathers day travelGoing away on vacation is one of those special things in life that we look forward to all year long. Getting away from the stresses and strains of everyday life, carving out some time for you and your family, or friends, to spend some quality time together, and ultimately, have some fun! If you’re stuck for ideas for your next vacation, then why not set your sights beyond the urban lights and head off the track into the wilderness? There’s so much natural and rugged scenery to enjoy, that maybe it’s time you got in touch with nature?

Going wild

Choosing a rural spot for your getaway doesn’t mean that you have to be completely cut off from humanity. There are of course many remote places you can visit, but there are also some areas close to big cities and other urban areas.

If you’re tempted by the idea of going wild, then why not speak to family and friends about vacations they’ve taken in the past. Can they recommend anywhere to you? Also, spend some time online, checking out travel guides and tourist information. There are also plenty of apps around to get you thinking.

Mountains, Rivers…

When you’re going through all the different bits of travel advice and information, have a good think about what kind of location you want where you want to spend your precious time. You could head for the mountains and stay in a pretty little village, walking all day and enjoying some delicious traditional food at night. Or you could stay lower down, enjoying time on a river and sleeping nearby.

It depends on how much you want to do on your getaway. For some, long walks in the mountains are heaven, for others, it’s their idea of hell. So, check out what your group likes doing and come to a compromise. You’ll also want to figure out how you’re going to get around. You’re likely going to need to take your own vehicle or hire a set of wheels when you arrive at your destination.

Outdoor activities

Besides walking, you’ll also want to consider what kind of other activities on offer in your chosen location. If you have kids with you, think what they can do to keep themselves amused. If you’re staying near a waterway, for example, look around for water-based fun. There could be rafting or canoeing lessons available, and they are activities all the family can take part in and enjoy.

If you’re looking for the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and upscale luxury, you could visit French Lick West Baden. This historic Indiana spa community offers lots of fun activities for outdoor lovers, such as hiking, biking and horseback riding!

Camping?

If you want a truly outdoor experience, and the weather is kind, then you and your group could try out camping on your vacation. It’s a great way to enjoy your natural surroundings and lead a simple, relaxing life. It can also be sociable in the evenings, having a BBQ and a few drinks. If it’s of interest, check out camping facilities when you’re looking for a location, they’ll range from basic to luxury. You can then pick what suits your budget and needs.
