Secrets of Healthy Skin

take care of your skinThere are many elements to having great skin, including genetics, hormone balance, skin care and, of course, nutrition. Food plays a major role in the condition of the skin and without a proper, wholesome diet it’s hard to achieve the flawless look we so desire. So here are some tips and recipes to aid on your path to perfect glowing skin.

First of all, eating an abundance of colorful vegetables would definitely help you a great deal. All of them are full of vitamins and antioxidants that will keep your skin looking youthful and your complexion clear. So choose to add more vegetables like spinach, carrots, tomatoes, squash and bell peppers to your daily meals. It can be hard to eat these veggies just by themselves so making a tahini sauce to go with your salad can be a great option. It’s very easy to make yet the end result is so creamy and flavorful, much better than any store-bought version.

You can either start by soaking a few garlic cloves in lemon juice or skip this step and add garlic to the blender. Also add there tahini paste, water, salt and lemon juice, blend until smooth. Serve as a salad dressing or a dip for raw veggies like red bell peppers.

Exercise is obviously beneficial to the health but it also contributes to clear skin because it flushes the toxins from your body with sweat. That’s why sauna can also be used for the same purpose. But we still recommend daily exercise and activity for the overall well-being of the body.

Reducing your sugar intake or cutting it out from your diet entirely can do wonders to your skin. The same goes for simple carbs and even fruits because they still contain fructose that spikes your insulin and messes with your hormone levels. Most people who limit sugar in their diets see a difference in the skin complexion. It doesn’t mean that to have good skin you shouldn’t enjoy food though, you can simply turn to the more wholesome, savory dishes. Try whole wheat pasta with vegetables and pesto sauce, for example. It’s really a quick and delicious way to make any dish more interesting.

Put into a food processor fresh basil and parsley. Then add toasted garlic and pine nuts and pulse everything a few times. While the processor is running on low, slowly pour in extra-virgin olive oil until mostly smooth. Add vegan cheese (if desired) and use for any purpose imaginable.

Avoid using any kind of soap on your face, it seriously only dries up your skin and can lead to irritation. Also make sure to check the water temperature when you’re washing your face because it should never be hot. It’ll only lead to problems because the skin on our faces is already quite sensitive and thin when compared to the rest of the body.

We all know that fried foods are unhealthy, especially when fried in palm, canola or corn oils. They seriously don’t have any benefits to the skin and should be avoided most of the time. If using oils, choose coconut for desserts and frying or olive for salad dressing and pasta sauces. This pomodoro sauce, for example, is a wonderful choice for any Italian dish and has only a few ingredients. It simply involves cooking garlic, red pepper flakes, basil, and tomatoes in olive oil, then blending it all into a sauce.

Last but not least – staying out of the sun and protecting yourself from UV radiation is crucial if you want healthy, youthful, and radiant skin.
