san franciscoThe Bay Area is known for its unique character, lavish San Francisco hotels, the iconic Golden Gate bridge sand its inventive, tasty dining options. If you are seeking a quirky place to grab a bite to eat, San Francisco is the place to go.

Fort Mason

Every Friday evening, from 5 to 10 pm, food trucks and carts roll into Fort Mason. There are 32 food trucks that sell their hot and ready specialties to hungry crowds of people that gather to sample the eclectic cuisine choices. The Lobsta Truck, Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen, Hula Truck, the Boneyard and the Taco Guys are just a few of the famous food trucks that ply their mouth-watering fare. Food tents such as Frita’s Shack, Bok Ssam, Burma Bear and Chica also dot the landscape. The food choices seem endless with options such as barbecue, Vietnamese, Korean, Mexican, French, South American and Indian. You can fill up on a variety of foods and head to your hotel in San Francisco for a night of blissful slumber.

The Ghetto

The Bay Area’s Ghetto sprang up during the 1960s and was spurred by the counter-culture movement that was then building up steam. Even after 45 yeasrs, the area still retains its idiosyncratic 60s vibe. For instance, you can grab a slice of pizza at the Cheese Board Pizzeria. Every day they serve a different pizza, although its always vegetarian. Local musicians will entertain you while you wait for one of the veggie bedecked slices. If you want to eat at the Ghetto’s historic Chez Panisse, be sure to make reservations at least a month in advance. From the moment that Chez Panisse first opened its doors in 1971, its been bustling. The restaurant has a set menu each day, but the ingredients are always fresh. Upstairs, you will find the Cafe at Chez Panisse, which offers more dining variety. The menu items change daily, so its always a surprise what delectable dishes you will have to choose from.

Opaque

Forget candlelit dinners! At Opaque, you will dine in pitch black darkness, requiring you to use all of your senses so that you truly enjoy your food. They are only open in the evenings, so be sure to make reservations because they book up quickly. After an evening of feasting in the darkness at Opaque, why not check into one of the 101 guest rooms at the Monarch Hotel. The hotel is located less than 10 minutes from the restaurant.

Red Door Cafe

The Red Door Cafe is a dining adventure for adults only — the entire restaurant has a wide array of sex paraphernalia and troll dolls on display. The owner is also well known for his off-the-wall wardrobe choices. Despite the many oddities around the restaurant, it is a well-known dining establishment with an exceptional reputation for delicious food.

BrainWash

Any time you need to wash your clothes and you want to grab a bite to eat, head to the BrainWash cafe. BrainWash is a combination of a cafe and laundromat, so you can do a load of laundry while grabbing enjoying a meal.

If you are a first time visitor, or a seasoned city dweller, there truly are endless arrays of quirky dining choices around the Bay Area to sate your appetite. So have a few laughs and try something new!
