Planning a Trip: How to Avoid Unpleasant Surprises

college travel tipsWhat could be more exciting than planning a long-awaited trip? Well, many things are, but in the era of low-cost air flights, it has become easier to plan your trip without the extra help of travel agencies. However, no one is safe from trip planning mistakes or miscalculations.

Managing your journey does not have to be a head-cracking experience. If you think it through and organize each day in advance, you will have fewer chances to face challenges throughout your journey.

In this article, we will talk about 4 practical recommendations on how to plan your trip properly and deal with unexpected circumstances.

#1 Make a detailed plan

To begin with, you should take into account all the aspects of your future trip. So, here are the most important steps to consider.

What’s your budget?

Defining the amount of money you can spend on your trip is essential if you want things to go smoothly. In some countries, you’ll have to spend more money than in the others, but it’s possible to save everywhere.

If you know the exact sum you can invest in your journey (and it’s above average), you can choose a middle or high-tier accommodation, transportation method, and entertainment. However, if you lack money, you can find cheaper ways to live and travel.

Nowadays, some people even manage to do it almost for free using such services as Couchsurfing and BlaBlaCar. The first one allows you to stay in a local home for free. Thus, you can not only save money but also explore cultural and language dimensions. And, BlaBlaCar is a relatively cheap alternative to public transport and car rentals. It offers drivers to share their car with other travelers who are going in the same direction. The price depends on the capacity of the vehicle, fuel cost, and distance.

What’s the trip length?

The amount of time you can devote to your trip is essential for the preparatory phase. If you have only a couple of days or a week, you must make sure you do not waste most of the time in transit. In such a case, you should pick one or two cities and explore their every landmark worth seeing.

But if you have a 2-week (or even longer) vacation, you can easily buy a cruise ticket or the country by bus. You can also choose a bike as your primary transport or hitchhike — it depends on how far you want to go out of your comfort zone.

What’s your perfect leisure?

To enjoy your trip, you should contemplate the kind of destination that would better suit your dreams about a perfect vacation. You can choose between all-inclusive tours and stay in a hotel with a giant pool and maze-like water park, or you can explore the country by hitchhiking and living in a humble tent surrounded by naked nature. It all depends on your preference!

#2 Eliminate the distractions

You have planned the itinerary and booked accommodation. You are getting off to an early start, but suddenly you receive a call from your boss or academic adviser. They say you need to finish some important tasks before leaving. That’s the most annoying part — you have to refund the tickets, postpone your trip, and make a U-turn.

The best way to avoid such issues is to settle them in advance instead of trying to fight the fire in haste. For example, if you are a student, it is recommended to bookmark at least one reliable customer writing paper service. Thus, if you get an extra assignment from your institution, you can always rely on such agency without delaying your trip.

#3 Prepare all the necessary documents

Usually, some countries require tourists to obtain a C visa before the arrival. Others allow travelers to get a visa at the airport or the border, depending on the way you are getting into the country. Generally, it is the second most important travel document after your passport.

However, sometimes getting a visa might not be that easy to do. Ensure that you have enough time before your departure so that you can collect all the necessary documents and apply for your visa in advance.

For example, some countries require foreigners to have a certain amount of funds on their personal bank account to ensure that they can live on that sum during the whole trip. So, double check the list of requirements before getting stuck at the border or the visa center.

#4 Always have means of navigation with you

Regardless of your destination, you should download offline maps with navigation in advance and make a habit of it. This can save you from getting lost in a new city, searching for a hotel or a meeting point with your guide.

Offline maps are also useful in case you are not familiar with the local public transportation system. Generally, you can ask the locals how to reach a particular location, but it will be much faster to check it in your smartphone. Nowadays, the most convenient navigation apps are Maps.Me and Google Maps. And if you’re in California, here is where you can find out how to lease a party bus in Bakersfield.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
