Outdoor Gear – Preparing for a Camping Trip

healthy camping tipsPreparing for a camping trip is largely about having the right gear with you. And this especially true if you’re going somewhere secluded where you have to be ready for anything nature may throw you. In this article, we’re going to give you some of the important items that you should be packing for your next camping trip.

A Sleeping Bag and Tent

Obviously the first thing you will need is a tent.  A tent will protect you from the weather and should be easy to install and transport. And if you’re going to be sleeping in a tent, there’s no way you can escape bringing a sleeping bag with you. A sleeping bag will not only protect your body from the elements, but it will also offer some extra cushioning from the hard ground. You could also add a sleeping pad for added comfort.

Water Bottle

Bringing a canteen with you used to be the norm and many people still swear by them, but now, we have much better options to choose from. A plastic wide mouthed bottle is a better choice and will make the water taste much better while being more versatile than canteens. You can use them to cook instant soup for instance. Before buying one, make sure that you look at various models first and try to find one free of BPAs.

A Flashlight

Everyone in your party should have their own personal flashlight. You just never know when you might need to get back to your camp on your own and your flashlight will give you an added sense of security. Go for a lightweight flashlight with an easy switch and plenty of lumens. You can bring a headlamp as well, but a flashlight will be much more versatile.

A Waterproof Ammo Dry Box

If you’re thinking of protecting yourself on your time there, then it’s important that you find a way to keep your ammo and other gear nice and dry – you’ve probably spent some money on stockpile building to ensure you have enough for the trip, so you’re going to want to make sure you’ll be able to use it! Try to pick a box that will be able to hold your ammo and any other gear that you’ll be bringing with you, whether it’s some goggles, a GPS, your cell phone, or anything that needs to be protected.

A Multi Tool and Axe

A multi tool is something every camper should have on them at all times. It will allow you to carry multiple tools at once without taking up too much space. A good camping axe is also important. Try to go for a small and agile axe that can perform a variety of tasks, like driving tent stakes for instance.

Water Purifier

If you’re going to drink unfiltered water, then you’ll need to bring a water purifying system with you. Even the cleanest stream can be full of pathogens, so you can never be too careful.

First Aid Kit

You should also make sure that you have a first aid kit on your campsite to prepare for the worst. Every person in your party should also have a survival kit on hand with them at all times. You can make your own survival kits yourself or you can buy pre-made survival kits online if you’re not sure what they should contain.

These are just some of the essentials that you should be bringing with you on your next trip. These items will allow you to enjoy a comfortable and safe time no matter the condition.
