sprinter vanThe Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has firmly established itself as one of the most popular and versatile vans on the market. It ticks all the right boxes when it comes to delivering on key issues like reliability, and having a spacious interior, which makes it a great workhorse.

When you visit a Mercedes Benz Sprinter dealer, you will quickly see that there are various models available. To help you choose the right for your needs it helps to understand the main differences between them.

Here’s a look at the key variations in the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter lineup.

Different Body Styles

One of the primary distinctions between each Sprinter model is their body style. The Sprinter comes in three main configurations. You have the option of a Cargo Van, Passenger Van, or Crew Van.

As you would expect, the Cargo Van is designed for business use. If you need ample space for transporting goods and equipment, this is likely your best choice. Out of all the Sprinters, it offers the highest cargo capacity,  plus varying roof heights and wheelbase options to maximize storage.

Again, the Passenger Van does what it says on the tin. It is the ideal choice for transporting people, offering seating for up to 15 passengers with plenty of room for luggage.

The Crew Van is a hybrid option that covers all bases,  with both passenger seating and cargo space. This makes it a great choice for businesses that need to transport both workers and equipment.

Powertrain Differences

Another key difference between models is their powertrain options. The Sprinter is available with multiple engine configurations, including a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, a 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine, and a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine. The gasoline engine works well if you prioritize lower purchasing costs and ease of maintenance.

The diesel engines have a deserved reputation for better fuel efficiency, higher torque, and longer engine life. The 3.0L V6 turbo diesel is particularly useful if you need extra power for towing heavy loads or driving in demanding conditions.

Notable Drivetrain Differences

Varying drivetrain configurations also set each Sprinter model apart. Your choice of drivetrain is rear-wheel drive (RWD), all-wheel drive (AWD), or four-wheel drive (4WD).

The RWD configuration is the default option and works well for most commercial applications, as it offers solid traction and handling. The AWD and 4WD options provide added stability and performance in off-road or harsh weather conditions.

Wheelbase and Roof Height Options

The Sprinter also comes in different wheelbase and roof height options. The standard wheelbase (144 inches) delivers useful maneuverability in urban environments, while the longer wheelbase options (170 inches and 170-inch extended) offer increased cargo or passenger capacity.

The Sprinter also comes with standard, high, and super high roof options. This is designed to accommodate any standing room and additional storage needs you might

As these key differences highlight, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter lineup offers plenty of model diversity and configurations. Whether you are looking for a reliable cargo hauler, a van that is great for carrying passengers, or a rugged off-road van, the Sprinter has got all the major angles covered.

Now that you have an understanding of these key differences, you can visit your Sprinter dealer with a clearer idea of what version of this brilliant van you need.
