How to Improve Your Home in 5 Steps

If your home is looking worse for wear then it may be time to make a few changes. Sometimes a few slight alterations can help transform your drab space into a fantastic home that makes you proud. Here is a short guide to help you improve your home in five simple steps.

Swap to a Tankless Water Heater

A residential tankless water heater can heat water directly and does not take up a large amount of space. They are also energy efficient due to the fact that the water heats up as and when needed. By using less energy you can save hundreds of dollars a year, depending on your water usage; not to mention, they also provide a continuous supply of hot water.

Improve the Air Quality

There are a few ways to improve the air quality in the home. The first way is to add plants and flowers to your indoor space. Not only can they oxygenate a room, they are also great for improving the mood and making your home feel fresher and more vibrant. Peace lilies and spider plants are great air-purifying plants. Another way to improve the air quality is to invest in an air purifier. These clever little machines can filter the air in your home and they also help to alleviate allergy symptoms by reducing the amount of allergens in your home.

Declutter and Deep Clean

Decluttering your space and giving it a deep clean can help you improve your home. Clutter can make you feel disorganized and scattered. Not only will having a clear-out help keep your mind clear, it can also create extra floor space. Once you have decluttered, make sure you give your home a spring clean. Spring cleaning has religious and cultural origins and although it is usually linked to the month of April, you can perform a deep clean any time of the year. Make sure you clean all of those easy-to-miss areas such as skirting boards and behind large appliances. Not only will a deep clean revitalize your home, it can make it feel like new.

Install Smart Technology

Get with the times and install smart technology in your property, which can have a major impact on various aspects of your home life. For example, a smart thermostat will allow you to change the temperature of your property while you are away from home. Not only will this enable you to keep your home at an optimum temperature 24/7, it is also energy efficient for people who forget to turn the thermostat down before leaving. Another fantastic piece of tech is a smart smoke detector. These devices monitor your home and send notifications directly to your smartphone if they detect any sign of smoke.

Change Your Lights

Simply changing your lightbulbs can completely transform the ambiance of a room.  Pair your living room with a soft, white light and the kitchen with a brighter bulb. Lighting can be used to change the mood in a room and so you should put some thought into choosing the right type of lights.

I like the idea of adding some plants. They are good air purifiers, indeed. However, if you’re aiming for good air quality in your home (you do it right), that could not be enough. If you have an air conditioner in your home, don’t forget to change its filters every 30-90 days first. You should also consider using HEPA filters for your appliance. HEPA filters trap 99.97% of all particulates including dust, pet dander, and pollen, and prevent them from circulating throughout your home.
That’s not all – we’ve written a complete guide on how to improve the air quality in the house: https://happyhiller.com/blog/improve-air-quality-in-your-home/.

Yes, installing a tankless water heater is actually a good idea in terms of saving money and electricity.

After crunching my annual energy spending numbers, I deduced that my tank water heater consumed a significant amount of energy. The heater was old and ran around the clock. When researching an alternative, I decided to install a tankless water heater. The result of this change was almost instantaneous. Unlike conventional heaters, demand-type water heaters only function when needed. With a tankless heater, water is heated directly without the need for storage. In doing so, these heaters don’t generate standby energy losses.

Yes and yes! A tankless water heater is actually a good thing. According to this article https://escoutah.com/tank-or-tankless-water-heaters/, it is 24–34 percent more energy-efficient over a traditional tank in households using less than 41 gallons of hot water a day. Plus, demand heaters are simpler to repair than their traditional counterparts and take up little space.

Yeah, a tankless water heater is more energy-efficient than a traditional one. Another benefit of tankless water heaters is that they usually have longer lifespans. According to this article https://servicetoday247.com/top-water-heater-faqs/, traditional water heaters tend to last for 10-15 years at most, while tankless systems can function efficiently for up to 20 years.

You may also want to improve your home by improving its energy efficiency. Since heating and cooling of the house account for 55% of utility bills, this is where to start. Consider replacing with new, more energy-efficient home appliances. Pay attention to such a thing as the SEER rating. The higher the rate, the more energy efficient the unit. You save about 7% per 1 SEER on electricity costs. As for furnaces, pay attention to the AFUE rate. A furnace that has an 80-90 percent AFUE rating is the most optimal option.

Also, focus on beautifying your yard. After all, it’s the first people see, and it definitely impacts the first impression. The truth is that combining a neat lawn and a water feature adds a lot of attractiveness to the house. It can even significantly increase the value of your home if you are thinking of selling. Consider installing something like a swimming pool, fountain, or small pond. But from the point of view of practicality, the pool is certainly a more reasonable solution, because it can also be used for entertainment.

Another quick and easy way to improve air quality in a home is to replace dirty HVAC filters. The good news is that changing a filter is pretty easy and takes only five or ten minutes. However, if you have never done this for the first time, you can hire an HVAC contractor to show you how to do it correctly.
