How to Get Your Healthiest Smile

healthy teethTaking care of your teeth is more important than you may think, and your oral health can not just impact your smile, but your overall health. Because of this, learning how you can take care of your teeth should be a priority that you don’t put on the backburner.

To help make getting your healthiest smile easier, here are five tips that you need to keep in mind.

1. Make Sure You’re Brushing Properly

Brushing properly is one of the easiest ways to ensure that you maintain good oral health. While you may think that you know how to brush your teeth, many people actually aren’t doing it correctly. In order to get the cleanest teeth, make sure that the toothbrush is at a 45-degree angle when you brush your teeth, especially the area where your gums and teeth meet. Gums play a part in the health of your smile, so don’t hesitate to rid sensitive gums with the dentist in indialantic FL.

You should also make sure to brush your teeth for at least two minutes, and you can even set a timer to help you keep track. While this may seem like a long time, not brushing for this long can cause you to miss a lot of spaces, which can then make cavities more likely to form.

2. Change Your Diet

Diets that contain foods that are high in sugar or acids are some of the worst for oral health. This is especially true if you drink a lot of coffee, sodas, or highly acidic juices. Sugars give fuel for cavities to grow and acidic drinks can weaken enamel, making it easier for them to form. Plain water is the best for teeth, and it’s also essential for keeping you hydrated as well!

When it comes to sugary foods, they should be consumed in moderation, and you should always brush your teeth at least 30 minutes after eating them if possible. Never go to sleep after eating sugary foods without brushing, as this can provide the perfect environment for bacteria and cavities to thrive.

Although it can be hard to try and change your diet, it can be one of the best things that you can do for both your teeth and your whole body.

3. Consider Braces

Misaligned teeth can also make it easier for cavities to form, as they can make it more difficult to brush correctly and effectively. Currently, over 1,000,000 patients have undergone treatment with Invisalign, and because these aligners are nearly invisible or Invisalign, they are becoming very popular with teens and adults.

If you have misaligned teeth, consider speaking to your dentist to see if options like Invisalign could work for you.

4. Don’t Forget to Floss!

Flossing isn’t everyone’s favorite activity, and most people would rather put it off. However, flossing helps you clean the areas that brushing can’t reach, and there are many methods for brushing if traditional floss isn’t for you.

A water flosser is perfect for those who don’t like the feeling of using floss, and it can be an easy way to make sure that you floss daily without discomfort. Some electric toothbrush sets may even come with a water flosser, and sets like this can be a great investment for your oral health.

5. Don’t Put Off Your Dental Health

Around 29% of low-income adults and 28% of young adults admit that they felt the appearance of their teeth impacted their job interview abilities. If you feel self-conscious about your teeth, your whole self-confidence can suffer, leading to lowered confidence in many different areas of life. However, this is just one more reason to seek out dental attention when you need it.

While it can be difficult and many people are scared of the dentist, ultimately, it will help you feel better and it is an investment that can help you thrive and become more confident and healthy.

Oral health is important not just because it can impact our health, but because it can impact our self-esteem as well. If you are unsatisfied with your smile, speak to your dentist to learn more about the steps you can take to obtain your healthiest smile.
