How To Better Organize Your Garage And Maximize Your Storage Space

storageDid you know that the average American garage is used to store more than just cars? Most people use their garage as a combined space for parking and storage. This can be a major problem, especially if you’re running out of storage space. Luckily, there are ways to better organize your garage and maximize your storage space. In this article, we will discuss some tips and tricks for getting the most out of your garage.

Combine storage and workstations

People often gradually build up clutter in their garages as they buy new things they need (or don’t) without having a result in mind. Unfortunately, this can cause more problems than solutions. When you move into a house, or in case you are planning a remodeling of the garage, think ahead of time about storage and workspace. A great solution is to think about building an integrated workbench that has included storage. There are many design solutions available to fit your needs. It is important to be practical about the layout, and a back wall is always a good idea. It uses only one side of the garage and allows you to have everything close at hand. You can have storage areas for larger objects, as well as a higher working surface if needed.

It’s important to design this space at the beginning of your remodeling process so that you don’t allow it to become cluttered with other items later on. Think about what you need and how much room you will need for storage before you even begin building any furniture or adding wall units. Once the area is built, make sure you maintain it by keeping it clean and organized. Getting into the habit of maintaining an organized space will be easier than cleaning up afterward every time something gets spilled or left out after use.

Don’t overload your shelves

It’s important not to overload your shelving units. The best thing to do is keep items off to one side of barges and then pile them on top of each other when necessary, making sure they are even when loaded. Shelves are designed with different load-bearing requirements in mind, so make sure yours are sturdy enough for what you are storing. Consider using adjustable shelves if you need the ability to make changes now and then, or replace them with new ones when they are not strong enough for larger items.

Use drawers for better storage

Another great way to get more out of your garage is by adding pull-out drawer units. These are great because they allow you to keep large objects that would normally take up a lot of space tucked away neatly in drawers. You can even consider taking this one step further and building an entire workbench system that has multiple drawers available for tools or supplies. Customize wherever possible so you can maximize your storage space without having the clutter appear disorganized wherever possible. Many homeowners choose custom shelving solutions so they can use every inch of the garage – even in areas that are not accessible to vehicles.

If you are interested in customizing your drawers, it’s important to make sure they are mounted correctly. If you ever need to move them, there should be no concern about whether or not they will hold up properly without breaking or causing damage. Test them out with different types of objects before adding all of your stuff so you can get a feel for how much weight they can hold without any issues.

There is more space above you

Garages can be a great place to store things that are not used as frequently. For example, mounting bikes on the ceiling can free up a lot of floor space. You can also use this space to store holiday decorations or other items that you only use a few times a year. This will keep them safe and organized, and you will not have to worry about them taking up valuable space on the ground.

Another great way to use space in your garage is by installing shelves or cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling. This will give you a lot of extra storage space that you can use for things like tools or seasonal items. If you are not using these items regularly, it’s a good idea to get creative with how you store them so they are out of the way but still accessible when needed.

Don’t forget about your walls

Walls are an often-overlooked area that can be used to maximize storage space without having to devote too much effort. Installing wall hooks, shelves or cabinets will take little time and effort on your part, yet can yield huge results in terms of freeing up floor space. The benefit of using the walls is that they cannot be moved around by accident or blocked if someone else parks their car in the wrong spot so it can be very reliable over time.

Open vs closed shelves

Open shelving is an excellent way to make your garage appear more spacious as long as they are not overloaded. Having all of your tools and supplies laid out on display can be distracting, however, having them neatly tucked away in organized cabinets or bins will let you focus more on what you need without being distracted by everything available. If you want to keep items visible but safe from damage and pests, consider installing a glass door so you can quickly access the contents inside when needed.

Who has time for the organization?

A lot of people find it challenging to stay organized because there is always so much going on around their home and work life with no relief in sight. It’s important to take some time each week to clear out anything that is no longer needed and make sure the tools and supplies you regularly use are easily accessible. It’s also a good idea to replace any items that may be damaged or worn out so they will not cause further problems as time goes on.

It can be challenging to stay organized, but it is important to maximize the use of your storage space. By taking some time each week to clear out unnecessary items and organize what you do need, you can make sure that everything is easily accessible when needed. Utilize wall space, open or closed shelves, cabinets, and even the ceiling to free up more floor space for other purposes. Don’t forget about your garage walls – they are a great place to install shelves or cabinets to store things that are not used as frequently.
