How to Achieve Zen-Like Calm in Your Office Space

The average office is typically a flurry of noise and movement that, while beneficial in some regards, can cause issues with concentration and productivity in others. The ideal solution is creating shared spaces where your team can gather together to discuss ideas and forge new concepts that will contribute to your company’s success while establishing zen-like areas that are used to follow through on these ideas. However, while many businesses are great at setting shared spaces, efforts often fall flat when designing calmer regions of the office. In this article, we will explore some of the strategies employed by office managers to cultivate spaces that are conducive to concentration and productivity.

Use Acoustic Panels To Absorb Atmospheric Noise

Noise and general discord are the antithesis of concentration. Nevertheless, most offices are hives of moment, sound, and background noise. One way to create a calm office space is to install acoustic panels. These panels help reduce echo and noise reverberation, which can otherwise make the office feel chaotic, eventually impacting productivity. Cutting down on these reflections is vital for worker focus and well-being. These panels absorb sound, lowering the overall volume levels and creating a sense of spacious serenity. If you are familiar with what they are and how they work, you can read this explainer on acoustic panels, providing an overview of what to expect. Nonetheless, busy, open-plan offices, in particular, can benefit from this solution, and with just a few panels, a workplace can feel noticeably more peaceful, helping employees feel relaxed and productive.

Eliminate Visual Clutter For Focus

Reducing visual clutter is a simple step that any office can take to improve not only productivity but also the overall office atmosphere. A cluttered desk or workspace creates needless distractions and makes it harder for workers to focus on the task at hand. Plenty of research indicates that the more clutter you have in a given area, the more cluttered your mind will feel. Instead, opting for a more organized approach will pay dividends. This extends from employee desks and spaces to storage closets and elsewhere around the office.

Incorporate Natural Lighting

If there is one thing guaranteed to create a peaceful setting, it’s natural light. While there are circumstances in which this is not feasible, it is a worthwhile endeavor to pursue if at all possible. Too often, poor lighting is overlooked as an issue that can adversely affect both physical and psychological well-being. Eye strain, headaches, fatigue, not to mention stress, and anxiety are all symptoms associated with inadequate lighting in high-pressure work environments. There’s also evidence showing how lack of natural sunlight can result in conditions such as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which could result in lost days or decreased productivity due to sickness.

Develop Relaxation Areas Where Staff Can Go To Contemplate

This might sound wishy-washy, but you’d be shocked at how much a simple relaxation area can boost your workforce’s effectiveness. By setting aside a room or rooms for this purpose (and installing acoustic panels, as mentioned earlier), you will foster an environment that favors tranquility; you can boost creativity and decrease employee downtime due to stress.

High-stress settings might be beneficial in some circumstances, but they typically lead to burnout if you’re not careful. Fortunately, there are plenty of options at your disposal when considering creating a tranquil workplace that will calm the minds of your staff while also leading to increased creativity and productivity.
