Hacks and Tips to Save Money on Uber Rides

uberMany people already see Uber as their preferred way to get around, as compared to cabs and even public transportation. Uber is incredibly convenient for most people, widely available around the world, and compared to many transport options, is also relatively inexpensive.

What people don’t know is that there are quite a few ways to save more money on Uber rides, by following tips and hacks like the ones below.

Change Where You’re Picked Up

If you’re on your smartphone and looking for a nearby driver from one neighborhood and the prices seem to be higher than you’re used to, just walking a few streets over to a different neighborhood can help you save money. Often the trendiest and most in-demand neighborhoods are also places Uber is going to charge the most because their demand is similarly high. So, if you’re standing in front of one of your city’s hotspots, try walking for a few minutes and then see if you can get lower ride prices.

Search for Coupons

Many online sites will offer access to a variety of Uber coupons and discount codes for various locations throughout the world, so before you catch a ride, make sure you look online for these options. Uber is also known for offering different promotional pricing options, so keep your eyes open, particularly if you’re a frequent Uber user. Uber may also offer promotions through partnerships with other brands, particularly if you’re signing up for your first ride with them.

Skip the Surges

One of the biggest complaints many people have about Uber is the potential for surge pricing when the costs spike because of demand or something like a holiday when a lot of people are out and about. Yes, surges can cause the cost of your Uber ride to go up significantly, but in many cases, they may only last a few minutes. If you open your Uber app only to be greeted with a surge notification, wait a few minutes and try again because it may be over.

Know What Kind of Car You’re Getting

Uber offers tiered service, and the availability of different types of cars and service may vary depending on the location. It’s important to know what kind of car you’re getting because the prices vary significantly. For example, uberX is a 4-door personal vehicle that can hold up to four riders, while UberSELECT is a luxury sedan for up to four passengers. The most expensive option is often either uberBLACK or requesting an SUV that holds up to six passengers. Ensure that you’re checking what kind of car you’ll be getting before you order the ride. Otherwise, you might be paying for more care than you really need.

Uber is convenient and often a relatively inexpensive way to get around, particularly if you know money-saving hacks before you hop in the car.

Success in life and in one’s pursuits is something that many people aspire to, but few individuals actually take the necessary actions to make it a reality.
