Most of us put on weight when we travel. This is partly because we let our hair down and indulge more, which is nice to do. But, sometimes it is because we are on the go and fast food is an easier option. This is especially the case when you visit one of the big tourist destinations like the Niagara Falls. In places like that, you are surrounded by temptation. Yet, it is not that difficult to enjoy healthy dining experiences. You just need to know where to look. Here are a few suggestions:
Enjoy a Meal with a Fallsview
There is nothing nicer than eating a meal at a table with a view of the waterfalls. Some of the big hotels, and a few other places, offer you the chance to enjoy this experience. For example, The Marriott Fallsview Hotel and Spa offers several restaurants all of which offer diners waterfall views. You can find out more about what is on offer by clicking here and exploring the dining page. As you will see, when you check out their menus, they offer plenty of healthy options.
Pho My Tan Ky – Dorchester Road
If you like Thai and Vietnamese food this is the place for you. Virtually everything on the menu is healthy. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too.
Soups & Things – Lundy’s Lane
For those people who want something light, this café grill/deli is a good choice. As the name indicates they sell mainly soups and stew type dishes, including a good range of vegan soups. Most of them are also low sodium.
There is also a fairly extensive range of sandwiches, burgers and other light snack food, all freshly made.
Red Chateau – Main Street
This restaurant serves European style food, a lot of which is Hungarian. The vegetarian goulash is a particularly popular dish. It is a small place where the owner does most of the cooking and serving, so expect a leisurely dining experience.
Studio Restaurant 5497 by Edwin – Portage Road
If you are looking for something a bit different this Caribbean restaurant is ideal. They serve an impressive range especially when you consider that it is all cooked from scratch.
The vegan salad and traditional Caribbean rice and peas dishes seem to be particularly popular. There are takeout options too.
Treat yourself to a picnic
It is always nice to do something different, so why not treat yourself to a picnic. There are plenty of small food stores and supermarkets in the area. All of which sell a good selection of fresh and healthy food.
Or better still you could go shopping at the farmer’s market in the morning and enjoy a picnic lunch using what you have just bought. It is held every Saturday morning behind the Niagara Falls Museum. Enjoy your food al fresco!
Where to find more healthy restaurants
Regardless of where you are planning to travel, it is usually possible to find healthy foods. Particularly if you focus your search on those restaurants that offer a good selection of vegetarian or vegan food. Increasingly, restaurants are putting together menus that appeal to vegans and omnivores alike.
