When was the last time that you stopped to thank a dad in your life for being a role model for your family? Many fathers are the first ones to rise in the morning and the last one in bed at night. After working hard all day, they come home to wrestle with their children, help get supper on the table and listen to good night requests. If it has been awhile since you have given dad some time off, then consider these ideas.
You may want to consider giving dad tickets to the Superbowl, but if that is not in the budget right now, then he may still enjoy going to watch a good game between two local rivals. Alternatively, dad may enjoy playing in a poker tournament as many dads have not been able to play for many years because they have traded the card deck for parental responsibilities. Alternatively, dad may enjoy playing a round of golf at a fabulous golf club or the chance to cycle through some beautiful rural scenery.
Take a Class
Some dads may enjoy the opportunity to take a class about their favorite hobby. There is a wide assortment of classes available from building wooden boats to photography. Some classes last a week, some are held on weekends and some last only a day. Dad may even enjoy taking an ongoing class at a local community college. Get everyone to agree to work together to take care of the many responsibilities that dad does on a regular basis allowing him the time to enjoy the class.
Dad may enjoy trying something he has never done before. Think about conversations you have had with dad for hints about what may be on his bucket list. Perhaps, it is to go skydiving or to take a ride in a hot air balloon. Alternatively, it may be to go to a party in a famous nightclub. Dad may even enjoy time to garden as long as everyone agrees that this is dad’s secret spot where he is not to be disturbed. The possibilities are almost endless, but you should make sure to consider what may be on dad’s list of things he wants to do when the children are grown. Instead of waiting, however, start checking items off dad’s to-do list now.
Dad may have listened to you read many stories as you stumbled to sound out your first words. While he probably never told you, he may have wished that he had the time to read a book by himself. Now, is the perfect time to give dad time to enjoy the hobby of reading. Think about topics that he is interested in, and order a book or two in that subject. Alternatively, dad may enjoy reading a fiction book. Give dad plenty of space as he becomes engrossed in the book’s pages.
There are as many possibilities as there are dads in the world. Think about what dad may have enjoyed doing when he was younger or things that he has always secretly wanted to do. He has earned some well-deserved time away from the clan. After all, it’s time he went on a dad-approved vacation.
