A Better Bed for Better Sleep

sleepMost people sleep on average one-third of their life, which is why it can make a huge difference to spend your time sleeping on the right bed. Getting proper sleep benefits you in a variety of ways, including improving your memory, sharpen your attention, reduce stress, and decrease anxiety and depression. Tossing and turning, waking up in pain, and increased allergy or asthma symptoms are all clear signs that it’s time for you to consider investing in a new bed.

Choosing the Right Bed

Everyone has different preferences for which type of bed they’d most like to spend their nights sleeping on. It can take some time to find the ideal bed for your body’s needs, but consider your options and spend time testing them out and researching the different types available. Adjustable beds offer relief for numerous health issues such as acid reflux, swelling, poor circulation, back pain, and post-surgery healing. When selecting a new bed frame, consider your budget and find out what types of mattresses are available for the frames you are considering to get. You can get the perfect bed frame, but if you don’t also spend time investing in a good mattress, your sleep may not improve.

Can Reduce Your Stress

When you have an uncomfortable bed, your thoughts can race at night, causing you to spend time worrying about things that can prevent you from sleeping. Not sleeping enough at night can also cause your stress to worsen. Stress doesn’t just make a person feel bad, it also has a negative impact on your health and can increase the risk of heart disease, asthma, diabetes, obesity, headaches, and depression.

Decreases Allergies

If your mattress is outdated, it’s possibly infested with dust mites, which you could be allergic to. Some symptoms of an allergy to dust mites include coughing, stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy nose, runny nose, and post-nasal drip. Dust mites can also trigger asthma symptoms, triggering chest tightness, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and trouble sleeping due to shortness of breath. Getting a new mattress and adding a protective cover over your mattress is one of the best ways to eliminate a dust mite problem.

Revamping Your Bedtime Routine

If you’re not getting enough sleep, one way to make it better is to revamp your bedtime routine. Stick to the same sleep schedule every night, even on the weekends. Limit the amount of caffeine you drink, especially hours before you go to bed. Drinking too much, even non-caffeinated beverages can also cause you to wake up frequently to use the bathroom. Use your bedroom for just sleeping to associate your bedroom with sleep. If you’re used to doing other things in your bedroom like watch television or read, your body can start to associate your bedroom with being awake. If you’re used to taking daytime naps, try to limit them to no more than 30 minutes. Another way to help you get more sleep at night is to manage your stress and increase your physical activity every day. Too much stress can cause your thoughts to race when you should be sleeping. If you’re having difficulties sleeping every night, you might need to consult your doctor to try and find the best solution.

Sleep is important. Your body needs it to function properly and to keep a variety of medical issues away. Getting the right bed is essential to making sure you sleep more soundly and have reduced aches and pains when you wake up in the morning. Be sure to take the time to figure out which type of bed would best suit your needs and pick a mattress that offers you the support you need.
