“It’s like a breath of fresh air” is something people say to refer to something refreshing and pleasant. If you live in a city, like 54% of us do, it’s just a figure of speech. That doesn’t stop us from opening those windows once summer rolls around, though, and for a good reason. There are so many benefits to good airflow. For the double-whammy of good airflow and clean air, there are a few easy and simple things we can do, like buying a plant. Opening that window, though, is just as important…
…For your home
Your home needs constant love and attention to stay in tip-top shape. Opening the windows and letting that air in will take care of a lot of house (or flat) woes. The airflow will reduce condensation buildup, meaning less damp areas and less mold, and, to some, fewer allergies and a better time breathing! The outside air lowers room temperature, making your space more comfortable, too.
…For your budget
It goes without saying that you don’t have to pay for that breeze coming in through your window. It’s a no-brainer! By using the power of wind and strategically blocking out sunlight when it gets too hot, instead of using a fan or air-conditioning, you can save a lot of money. That money can be used for better things, like a trip to that warm destination when you’re freezing cold in winter! (It’s also better for the environment!)
…For your happiness
There’s something about springtime that puts, well, a spring in your step! The warmer air, the blooming flowers, the promise of a new day. Opening your windows lets that warm weather in and permeate your home. The energy of the air as it flows throughout your home will bring with it many positive effects to your mental health. Ensure that your windows are easy to get to open through window winders which can operate the highest of windows. Don’t block your airflow with bulky furniture!
…For your productivity
A lot of people do their work in cafés, libraries or other busy locations. The energy of the room increases their productivity and lets them focus. The same principle can apply to good airflow in your home. Whereas stagnant, stale air can be associated with laziness and sleepiness, a breeze will stimulate your senses and kick your brain into gear. Your sense of touch as the wind brushes your hair. Your sense of smell from the world outside. Your hearing. Outside stimulus does wonders for productivity, and no, you don’t have to leave your home to find it.
It’s true when they say that fresh air is the best medicine. Just because you might happen to live in a city doesn’t stop this from being true, nor does it stop the air coming in through your window benefiting you. So long as the air doesn’t adversely harm your health, there’s no reason to stay cooped up inside. Enjoy summer to its fullest!
