niagara fallsThe Niagara Falls are a wonderful travel destination. So, it is little wonder that most years around 30 million people flock to the area.

If you are planning to be one of them and want to combine your sightseeing with healthy activities and experiences, you just need to read on. As you will see, Niagara Falls is the perfect destination for the health-conscious traveler.

Stay in a hotel that has good amenities

As you can see from this website there are plenty of hotels that have all of the amenities you need to be able to maintain healthy habits while on vacation. Many of them have great gyms, spas and give their guests the chance to enjoy healthy food in their restaurants.

Hire a bike to get around

Getting around the Niagara Falls area is easy. There is plenty of affordable public transport available. You can also hire a bike. It is a great way to get some exercise and be able to travel a little further afield.

Explore on horseback

There are several stables in the area that offer riders the opportunity to explore the area on horseback. You can find out more here.

Visit Wildplay

If you enjoy zip lines, head to Wildplay. They also have a great adventure course for you to tackle.

Go for a run

A lot of people incorporate running into their fitness regime. It is the perfect way to stay fit for travelers. After all, you can run practically anywhere, even in a city. But, it always feels good to break away from the crowds and enjoy running surrounded by nature. As you can see from this excellent article, there are plenty of opportunities for you to do that. On both the Canadian and American sides of the waterfalls. One of my favorite recommendations in that article is the 10km route that enables you to explore Niagara-on-the-Falls at a faster pace than most tourists. It is a great way to get your bearings so that you can circle back after your run and visit the places that appealed to you the most.

Go for a swim

The area has several excellent waterparks. If you don’t mind swimming in a pool full of kids, they are great fun. You can also gain access to some of the hotel pools in the area or use one of the public ones. They are a bit quieter, so they are a better option if you want to swim lengths.

Enjoy healthy food during your stay

In the past, finding somewhere to eat healthy food while staying in a very touristy area was not easy. Understandably, the focus was mainly on fast food, which often meant fried food. This is starting to change, certainly in the Niagara Falls area.

For the best choice head to the local Chinese and Indian restaurants. They usually have a good selection of vegetarian dishes on offer. But, be careful about ordering anything that comes with a sauce. They tend to be calorie-laden and sometimes quite high in fat and salt.

If you are staying somewhere that offers you access to your own cooking facilities, visit the Farmer’s Market. It is held behind the Niagara Falls Museum, every Saturday.
