Where to find vegan and gluten free food in San FranciscoIf you just have three days in Oakland and have little clue as to how to plan your trip and what to do and see, you are just on the right page. Take advantage of the itinerary ideas here to get the most out of your trip and come back with some beautiful memories.

Oakland is an urban cultural mecca that is steeped in complicated history and culture. However, Oakland gets often overlooked and ignored as most people are still not very familiar with the Bay Area of California. The giant city is just minutes apart from San Francisco, but the two cities could not be more different.

Oakland carries its own unique culture with distinct sounds, tastes, and feel. The youth in Oakland are socially and culturally active and involved in movements such as Black is Beautiful and protecting people of color.

It is super easy to get around town, and one can use the public transit, bike, or take advantage of the rideshare app. The city is much bigger than you think, and there are endless neighborhoods with a unique vibe that display the many sides of Oakland.

So, if you are here just for three days, make the most out of your time, and here is how.

A perfect itinerary for three days

Day 1 – Explore the city and waterfront

After enjoying a great breakfast in the Laurel District, head towards the gorgeous redwood forest. You will soon notice that the trees are planted in circles in this quiet and majestic forest.  You can explore Jack London Square, which sits right on the water.  Take a boat to explore the waterfront and enjoy the views. This is a popular entertainment and business destination and boasts plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

After lunch, it is time to explore the most central area of the city, the Uptown & Downtown. The best part is that the two neighborhoods lie just next to each other, so it is easy to delve into both.

In the evening, you can enjoy a chilling for few hours in the Root’d Lounge.

Day 2- Spend a day at the lake

Lake Merritt always surprises the visitors who can’t stop marveling at the giant lake located right downtown. One can easily spend the whole day here and enjoy the lake activities such as completing the 3-mile lake loop on a rowboat, canoe, or sailboat.

Spend the evening biking, strolling, and enjoying the views, and end the day with a meal at Lake Chalet.

Day 3 Hike in the Redwoods

Your trip to Oakland remains incomplete if you do not explore the famous Redwoods parks of the city. Some of the redwoods in the Bay Area date back to the 1880s. You can hike through the Redwood Regional Park with a sprawling network of hiking trails and offer you some stunning views of the city from the hills.
The 4-mile Scenic Redwood Loop is a popular hike among the locals and visitors as it takes you across valley floor streams and scenic overlooks.
