Four Fitness Tips for Winter 2021

winter exerciseWith winter fast approaching and the holiday season within touching distance, many of us will be dwelling on the fun and festivities that winter has to offer. But while Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other warming winter encounters are all about feasting and kicking back in the warmth of your home, there’s another part of you that will be keen to use this winter as an opportunity to get fit and lose weight. Here’s how you can enjoy both: keeping in shape while enjoying all the treats that winter has to offer us.

Exercising in the Cold

Many of us find it difficult to motivate ourselves when it comes to getting out for a jog or a cycle in the cold weather. Not only does the air we breathe in this weather feel like it’s freezing our lungs, but it’s difficult to wear the right clothing so that you’re kept warm on your outing. There are plenty of ways around this excuse, though, including setting fitness targets, changing your fitness habits, so you work out in the gym, and buying appropriate attire for the winter months. Getting in from a brisk and col run in the winter is that bit more rewarding – so don’t sacrifice that feeling simply because it’s cold.

Moderation

It’s only right that we see some of the festive seasons as a time of excess. With the longest nights drawing in, weather cool outside, and family over to stay, we’re tempted to batten down the hatches and eat and drink to our heart’s content. But the truth is that winter needn’t be that way – we can moderate our consumption in order to keep our weight and fitness levels maintained through Christmas and the new year. So the tip here is to have fun, but draw-ups limit that you won’t exceed this holiday season.

Winter Diets

Contemplating a diet with the feasts of Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon can feel off-putting. But these feasts are exactly why it’s important that you keep track of your eating habits throughout the rest of the coldest months of the year. This isn’t to say that you should not enjoy yourself and cook up brilliant platters of food this winter, but it is a suggestion that you consider a new diet for the sake of your fitness. Lina Cellante explains the Keto Diet here, which is a nice go-between that’ll have you enjoying one food without risking that yearly weight gain around the festive season.

New Year

Slap-bang in the middle of winter, the new year is always a chance to drop bad habits and to build a new fitness regime. If you’ve followed the above tips, though, you’ll already be working towards fine health and fitness come the first of January. But you could choose to give up harmful habits – like drinking alcohol or smoking – at the turn of 2022, thus further improving your health as the days start to become warmer and the summer approaches.

Keeping fit and healthy this winter needn’t be an uphill struggle – these four tips will help you stroll into better fitness during the coldest months of the year.
