Guide To Planning Your First Travel Trip

It’s safe to say that 2020 did not turn out the way any of us expected. After a year of social distancing and workouts in our apartments, even the truest homebodies are looking forward to getting out and about. If you’re not much of a world traveler, getting into the travel lifestyle can seem a bit overwhelming at first. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be! Here are our 7 tips for taking the guesswork out of planning your very first travel trip.

Make a budget

Though not the most fun step, the first concrete step to making and meeting your travel goals is to create a budget. This is especially important for new travelers because it will help guide the rest of your planning by narrowing down how much you can pay for flights, lodging, and other vacation fun. While tailoring your trip to your budget may not seem glamorous, it can help reduce your overall stress on your trip, leaving you free to enjoy yourself more fully.

Pick a location

After you’ve got the hardest part out of the way, it’s time to move on to something much more fun: Picking a spot for your travel trip. To do this, consider your unique needs, interests, and budget. What kind of vacation do you want to have? Are you looking to fill your time with arts and culture or hoping to reconnect with nature on your own? Do you want a location with vibrant nightlife, or are you hoping to pamper yourself in your hotel room and go to bed early? Answering these questions will help you find a destination that’s right for you.

Build your itinerary

Once you know where you’re going, it’s time to figure out what you want to do. I recommend putting together a flexible itinerary with a good mix of planned activities and downtime. Some events you’re hoping to attend might require tickets or reservations, and it would be helpful to lock those down ahead of time. However, planning too rigid of a schedule can leave a beginning traveler feeling stressed and disappointed. Make sure you plan some time to relax and rest so that you can have the best time possible.

Look for deals

No matter where you’ve decided to go or what your budget is, it’s always a good idea to look for deals when you travel. As you become a more experienced flyer, you might even plan your trips around great deals to make your travel lifestyle more sustainable. For example, it’s always easier to justify a weekend in Vegas when you’ve found cheap airfare to Vegas, right? This can save you tons of money on flights and accommodations, freeing up more for food, cocktails, and fun!

Do your research

Although more and more travel restrictions are being lifted every day, it’s still a good idea to do some research to check what’s allowed right now. Look into the safety regulations of your airline and accommodations, as well as any guidance from the local government, to be sure you can stay safe and have a good time.

Pack Efficiently

There’s a reason that frequent flyers carry so little baggage. Getting through airport security with lots of luggage is no fun! Take a tip from more experienced explorers and invest in travel organizers for your bags. You’ll be able to fly through security and easily find everything you need when you land.

Have fun!

Whether you’ve planned a short weekend getaway or a long, luxurious overseas vacation, make sure to enjoy it! The best part about traveling is the experience of being away from everyday life, so take advantage of every minute.
