road trip tipsWhether you’re spending the holidays away or at home, it can be challenging to fill in the hours and find something that’s fun for the whole family.

If you want to have a blast with some family bonding activities, you’ll need to think outside the box. Click here to check out The Old School Game Vault if you’re into video games, and here are some fun holiday activities that the whole family will enjoy.

Do a Fun Family Photoshoot

Getting family photos doesn’t have to be a chore. Shake things up and do something unique and wild this time around. Head to a local playground for some energetic action shots or do a lifestyle photoshoot that features you chilling in your PJs together. Design superhero costumes and leave the matching dress shirts to the mere mortals.

If you’re heading out on vacation, hire a photographer who can capture the occasion. There are even photographers available at Disney World to capture everyone in their mouse ears in the happiest place on Earth.

You can use these photos to print and frame or create a photo book of your memories. For something truly unique, use a service that turns your photos into art, like this one.

Have a Games Night

Having a family games night is a great way to spend time together and see if you passed along your competitive streak.

Put together a family-friendly Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and visit the site to get everything you need for your epic adventure. Get a copy of Make-Your-Own-Opoly and create a custom board that references the quirks and traits of your family.

For a more modern take, pull out some of your favorite video games and place some friendly bets. Maybe the winner gets breakfast in bed, and the loser has to do a load of laundry.

Go Rock Hunting or Geocaching

Geocaching has been a hit for adventurous families in recent years, whether they’re at home or on the road. Rock hunting is another twist on this trend that gets you outside and interacting with nature.

With traditional geocaching, you follow a set of coordinates to find a “cache” and write in the logbook to prove that you made it there. With rock hunting, you paint and seal rocks and hide them around in local parks and trails. People who find these treasures can take them or re-hide them, often posting on social media groups about their finds.

If you’re going on vacation, take a few rocks with you and note your home state or country on the back.

Hire or take bikes on your holiday

Cycling has always been a great activity for many people to enjoy when they go on holiday. Not only does it keep you fit, but it is cheaper than getting public transport everywhere, it is quicker than walking, you won’t get stuck in city traffic, and you can just cruise around at your leisure. Cycling can be extremely versatile too, because not only is it a great way to get around, but if you fancy something a little more exciting, you can go full steam through trails in the woods, or even up and down mountains. Before you set off on your adventure, you should make sure that the hiring company you have got the bikes from has the correct legal cover for you and your family so that you have the relevant, and effective legal representation in the unfortunate circumstance that you or a member of your family find themselves in an accident.

Cycling is a great option for people of all ages and skill levels. If you have young children then it will be something that they enjoy, if you have teenages then it will help give them an extra sense of freedom, all the way to if you are on holiday with grandparents who can also enjoy the low-impact exercise of cycling while spending time with their family.

Go Stargazing

When was the last time you got away from it all and took a good look at the night sky? Pack your family up with blankets and pillows and stretch out under the stars. Use the Star Chart app to outline constellations and learn more about the mythology behind each one.

This is a great activity to try a few times each year, as the night sky changes with the seasons. Bring some hot chocolate in the winter and lemonade in the summer to make it even more special.

Do a Ghost Walk

For a fun, spooky activity, go on a ghost walk together. You can find these events all over, from local vineyards to city centers. You’ll walk with a guide and learn about the local ghost stories in the area while getting exercise as a family.

Some old cities even have larger tours in which you are transported from location to location and get access to locked buildings and graveyards. Ghost walks are a great way to learn about local history with an entertaining, mysterious twist. If this is something that your family will love, you should look at spiritshack as they offer some great ghostly walks.

There are endless activities for you and your family to try while on holiday, regardless of if you’re traveling somewhere new or having a staycation. Get creative and get everyone involved to make some awesome memories.

Family is the most valuable thing you have. I think, regardless of your busyness, it is worth at least once a week to gather the whole family for pleasant conversations or just have fun. The games are really very funny. And if before we used to get together and go play pool, now I found a list of best pool tables here, and I will install it at home to collect everyone in the backyard and make family gatherings even more comfortable
