Now, thanks to some innovative technology, people are taking their health into their hands — monitoring important data from EKGs, potential heart issues and sleep apnea. These tools are changing the way modern medicine is practiced and may improve overall care by allowing people to be more proactive about their health.
The following digital diagnostic tools are getting a lot of positive attention from both the medical professional and patient communities:
Kardia Mobile
The FDA-Cleared Kardia Mobile monitors and detects possible instances of atrial fibrillation, which is the leading cause of stroke. Referred to as “peace of mind in your pocket,” the credit card-sized Cardia lets wearers capture a medical-grade EKG in just 30 seconds. Instead of having to schedule numerous appointments with their cardiologist or other physician to monitor their heart health, people can get instant EKG analysis from literally any location. This data can be stored, tracked and shared and relayed to the doctor to help determine a diagnosis and treatment plan. To attach the medical grade Kardia Mobile to your smartphone, purchase a case that is especially made to fit the device. For people who are concerned about sending personal medical data through their smartphones, many of the newer models feature defense-grade security that can keep this type of information secure. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge includes high end security called Samsung Knox as a standard feature.
Pulsewave (R) Health Monitor
Cloud DX has created and marketed the Pulsewave (R) Health Monitor, a virtual medical device that records the pulse from the wrist, uploads the info to the cloud and uses that data to examine major vital signs. Pulsewave is the only FDA-cleared health monitor that can be used both at the doctor’s office and at home. It displays the person’s heart beat in real time and determines four results from the wrist cuff reading: heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate and cardiac anomaly scores. The Pulsewave features a 30-day average gauge and trend gauge, which will let users and their doctors see how their health has changed.
Vitaliti
In addition to the Pulsewave Health Monitor, Cloud DX is working on a new diagnostic tool called Vitaliti. This continuous vital sign monitor will keep track of five vital signs with clinical accuracy for a minimum of 72 hours. In addition, the Vitaliti will be able to monitor health conditions that get worse during the night, like sleep apnea and congestive heart failure. Cloud DX is also working on developing a wireless high resolution camera that will be part of the device and will allow people to self-examine parts of their body, like the ear canal.
DermLite Smart Skin Scanner
The DermLite smart skin scanner allows people to check and track their skin health. The easy-to-use device works with a smartphone and takes photos with a medical-grade optical lens; these photos can then be shared with a healthcare professional. DermLite comes with an app that educates the wearer about skin cancer and also allows the user to send photos of any possible skin issues to their dermatologist.
