Don’t waste the pulp when you juice – here are 5 great ways to use it

tips on using juice pulpMany of us love to use our juicer to create a healthy fruit or vegetable juice. If you love to do this,

what do you do with the pulp that remains after juicing? There are plenty of nutrients that remain in

this pulp and throwing it in the bin is a major waste.

If you don’t throw the pulp away, then what should you do with it? If you’re prepared to invest just a

little time and effort. There are several ways in which you can make good use of the pulp.

Here are five of them:

1. Composting

Once you have put away your juicer, this is probably one of the most straight-forward and least time

consuming ways in which you can use the left over pulp. Once you’ve got a composting process in

place, and you’re maintaining it, then adding some pulp to it is easy. This is a great way of helping to

produce excellent home grown produce to eat.

2. Making soup

In the cold weather, a bowl of warm soup is a welcome treat, especially if you bake your own bread

to go with it. The pulp that’s left over from juicing is an excellent addition when you’re making soup.

Carrot pulp for instance, is full of Vitamins A. B and C. So using it in a tasty vegetable soup makes

great sense from a health point of view.

3. Topping off pancakes

Who doesn’t love a pancake as a delicious treat? They’re simple, quick to make and excellent at

breakfast time. You can add zing to your pancakes by using the fruit pulp you have left over from

juicing as a refreshing and healthy topping.

4. Baking

If baking is your thing? Pulp can make an excellent addition to a cake mix or a muffin mix. You get all

the benefit of the nutrients in the pulp, as well as a great tasting cake to eat.

5. Creating smoothies

Smoothies are delicious to drink, there’s no doubt about that and they are also an excellent way of

getting children interested in fruit. It’s recommended that children should eat between one and two

cups of fruit per day, depending on their age.

It’s often not easy to persuade your child to do this. This is where making smoothies comes in useful.

They’re fun and they’re colorful, so children are more inclined to accept fruit in this way. Using

leftover pulp from juicing in a smoothie means your children get all the benefit of its nutritional

value.

Juicing is certainly an excellent use of fruit and vegetables, but you should never throw the leftover

pulp away. Whether, it’s encouraging your children to enjoy fruit, improving the flavor of your

pancakes, or creating compost for your yard. Pulp has a myriad of uses; throwing it away represents

a missed opportunity to take in extra vitamins and nutrients.

Great list. Another nice way to level up nutrient value of plain meal like mac and cheese is to add fruits or veggies pulp into it.
