business travelTraveling for business has generally been considered a tiring and tedious ordeal. Whether it is making it work with diverse time zones, low quality hotels and of course work. Business travel services and the hospitality industry in general are always trying to improve on their services and provide better and better quality stays.

So we asked and found out 8 tips that travelers could employ to make traveling for business more practical.

Charge your phone beforehand

For someone who has to travel often for business, knowing the importance of a charged phone is quite significant. Constantly using your phone to make calls and emails can quickly consume your phone battery, our suggestion for frequent travelers is to keep a portable USB charger close at hand. Carrying power banks to help charge your phone when you can’t find an outlet is also another idea that can help you in times of distress.

Make use of hotel reward points

For those who travel frequently for business and visit the same cities or even the same hotel brands, they can take benefit of the hotel reward points and save quite a bit on a variety of savings and discounts offered by the hotel. Some hotels tend to provide significant discounts on car parking, welcome drinks, or even free stays for children amongst other advantages.  There are rumors spreading recently about American Airlines changing their reward system.

Sometimes even the best way to save money on hefty hotel bills is confirm your booking on the last day, and until that time they are getting absolutely desperate for business so you will be able to score some discounts as well.

Travel with your family

Say you are traveling to an unknown country with a totally different culture and language than yours and you have to stay for an indefinite period or till the deal closes which can take up to several weeks or even months! Traveling with your family is a sure short way to prevent getting lonely and also enjoy the time in the new place. Make it a sort of a family vacation. When traveling with family, it is also advisable to book in a family friendly hotel that is also close to a variety of family friend tourist attractions so that your family can keep busy while you go off to work.

Keeping to the left

While a majority of people are right handed and even sometimes left handed people tend to lean to the right whether it is a train station, an airport terminal or any other busy place. Maneuvering around crowds and looking for you station or terminal is a common thing for frequent travelers. All you have to do is to stay towards the left hand side and see how things turn out for you!

Have a talk with the HR department

You can talk to your HR department of your organization to make traveling a better experience for you and your colleagues, for example, by getting per diem reimbursements. A terrific way to start the conversation is via talking about benchmarking. Most organizations want to stay ahead of their competition, and if they find out they are lacking behind in certain aspects they are bound to make up for it. For people who work with travel management they have right to use The Association for Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) and the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), whose primary focus is to inform and communicate to different companies the upcoming trends as well as the current standards? In general, try to talk to other business travelers and see what sort of business trips are they taking? Is their company having them stay in better hotels than you? Or is the company investing in business travel services? Or any other benefits that they might be receiving.

Try to make use of Travel Services

Try to make the most of the travel resources provided. There are a large number of companies and platforms that exist solely to provide better business travel. You would do well by utilizing their services. Such kind of services can help you in cases such as cancelled flights, confusion in hotel bookings, finding the perfect route to your work in a strange land or even find the ideal tourist spots to enjoy if you have some time to yourself. You can even choose to have your car shipped during a corporate relocation.

Go out for outings

It is sometimes acceptable to mix business with pleasure and take the time out from your busy schedule to do some sightseeing. You can ask around in your hotels for different excursions that they can provide or refer you to another agency. The thought is to disengage from the strain and anxiety that comes with business travel, reenergize, enjoy and discover a new location. Soak up the culture and explore the new country that you are in. Visit local cafes, markets or even talk to the a few local and find out what it’s like living in the said country. It wouldn’t hurt to try the local cuisine as well.

Invest in a digital luggage scale

Over packing can end you up with a heavy charge on the airport. In order to prevent this from happening investing in a digital luggage scale can be quite a wise thing to do. It generally comes in a small size that you can easily carry, and help you sort your luggage weight so you don’t have to leave your extra stuff at the airport in case it gets over the limit. Another handy feature of this scale is that it helps you to weight both in pounds and kilos. The smart thing to do is to travel light, keep under the limit and when you are traveling you can always do some shopping or buy souvenirs and then make it to the baggage limit.

Conclusion

Traveling frequently and essentially living on the road can be a tough job but the tips mentioned above can make your live a little easier. From finding upgrades in your hotels, to traveling light and keep important things handy can make the hassle of traveling abroad can make your traveling a lot easier.
