heart attackIt is rightly said that prevention is better than cure and scientists now know controllable risk factors for the heart ailments or coronary artery disease than any other kind of disease. Any of the risk factors can increase the chance of your developing CAD. For good reasons, people have now started adopting preventative measures to avoid heart diseases. Following 8 preventative measures to avoid heart diseases are natural and easy to follow.

Say no to ‘Cigarettes”!

This is the powerful step you can take to stay healthy. In the US, nearly 30-40% of individuals develop CAD due to their addiction towards tobacco. Cigarette smoking is harmful and increases the chance of getting strokes and heart attacks. Quit smoking to reduce your probability of getting CAD.

Keep a check on cholesterol

If you reduce your blood cholesterol by 1%, there is 2-3% less chance of having CAD. So, eat less of fried and fatty food.

Control hypertension

High blood pressure or hypertension is directly related to CAD and heart attacks. For every 1% reduction in the blood pressure, you reduce the chance of developing heart ailment by 2-3%. Try and make lifestyle changes such as reducing the intake of sodium, alcohol and calories to benefit your heart.

Be active!

Do not live a sedentary lifestyle and be active. If you exercise regularly, your heart will function efficiently to reduce the risk of CAD. Staying active with regular workout and exercises can reduce the bad cholesterol and raise HDL, reduce blood pressure, prevent the occurrence of blood clots and allow the body to use insulin. Even if you live a sedentary lifestyle, you must begin exercise program and workout regularly.

Weight management

Having a healthy body weight with effective weight management is the key to preventing heart ailments. People who are obese are more prone to getting heart ailments.

Control your blood sugar level to avoid diabetes

In the US, millions of people are affected by Type 2 Diabetes which is the leading cause behind heart ailments. Type 2 Diabetes is responsible for causing hypertension and CAD. Regular exercise can help manage body weight to regulate the blood sugar level.

1-2 drinks a day to avoid heart ailment

2 drinks for men are considered healthy and for women 1 drink is enough to keep the heart disease at bay. Drinking more can cause cancer, heart ailments and other issues.

The need for lower dose aspirin

Regular intake of baby aspirin can reduce the chance of heart ailments by 1/3rd as the blood platelets cannot stick together. So, there will be no clot formation. This is meant for those who have more chance of developing a CAD.

By following the above tips, one can reduce the probability of CAD and heart strokes. It is important to consult a physician to learn more.
