8 Health Upgrades to Make to Your Home This Summer

rural homesAs the summer is upon us, most homeowners are wondering how they can make necessary improvements to their homes. While the look and feel of your home is certainly important to consider, have you thought about the health of your home and how it contributes to the wellness of you, your family members, and your guests? Here are 8 health upgrades you can make to your home this summer.

1. Have Your Home Inspected for Mold and Mildew

Mold and mildew, even when they’re not severe, can have detrimental effects on you and your family if it’s allowed to grow unchecked. Common areas for mold and mildew include basements and bathrooms. But don’t hesitate to have other areas in your home inspected for these nasty fungi. For example, your kitchen and outdoor porches could be harboring mold or mildew without you even being aware of it. The good news is that these problems can be taken care of quite easily if they’re addressed from the very start.

2. Take the Time to Check-In on Deep Cleaning Projects from Time to Time

Did you know that 85% of the nation’s homes were built prior to 1980 and are in need of home improvement? If you’re feeling hesitant about cleaning up around the house, stats like these may help to remind you that you’re not alone. While big maintenance projects and renovations are certainly fun to take part in, you should never forget how important it is to keep up on regular deep cleaning projects. If you forget to deep clean your home’s floors, ceilings, walls, entryways, and floorboards from time to time, these areas can build up all kinds of unwanted dust and grime.

3. Don’t Forget About Your Landscaping Projects and Exterior Areas Either!

Of course, there is seemingly no end to the amount of home improvement health projects that you can take on within the four walls of your home. However, far too many homeowners forget to acknowledge the fact that there’s also lots to be done on the outside of their homes. By investing in some new plants and taking care of your grass, you might be surprised by just how much of a transformational effect these kinds of projects can have. From sprucing up your home’s curb appeal with a new set of flowers and shrubs to providing more natural landscape features, the options for outdoor projects are numerous. Head down to your local lawn and garden store today to get started on creating a healthier, and more natural first impression for the rest of your home.

4. Invest In a High-Quality Home Security System

The average sales price in Manhattan was $1.9 million for condos in existing buildings in the third quarter of 2017. With homes selling for such high prices, there’s no denying how valuable the average home is. Therefore, as a homeowner, you simply cannot afford to allow any unnecessary damage to be caused on your property. With a high-quality home security system, you can stay on top of the health of your home by monitoring any suspicious activity. Modern-day security systems even allow you to configure a number of detailed settings so that you can find the setup that meets your needs, no matter how specific they might happen to be. With hot summer nights bringing open windows, the last thing you want is damage from an attempted break-in.

5. Make Sure to Take Care of Your Heating and Cooling Systems

If left unaddressed, old and outdated HVAC systems can have some harmful effects on your health. A bad filter full of dust can transfer harmful particles into the air that you and your family members end up breathing into your lungs day in and day out. While routine inspections are crucial to maintain optimal function of your heating and cooling units, you should also make any necessary replacements if problems are discovered by qualified technicians. While these replacements may be annoying at the time, they can often have positive compounding effects on your health, wellness, and finances over time.

6. Consider Adding More Sunlight to Certain Areas of Your Home

Sunlight is a necessary component of health. Yet even still, most people are simply lacking adequate sunlight. While you don’t want too much sunlight getting into some parts of your home, other areas could use even more sunlight. Consider installing new windows or curtains that allow for more sunlight in certain parts of your home this summer.

7. Upgrade Your Home’s Technology with Voice Assistants and Other Devices

As of 2020, an estimated 45 million smart home devices will be running in U.S. households. These devices, such as those that are controlled with voice commands, can make life much easier in a number of different ways. For example, a voice-activated device may help in making your home more secure. Furthermore, a properly configured voice device may be able to tell you if the home’s temperature cycle is wasting energy or adding too much humidity into the air. The possibilities for upgrading your home’s technological add ons to assist with health and wellness are nearly limitless in today’s world.

8. Don’t Be Afraid to Invest in Solutions That Save You Both Energy and Water

Whether you’re looking into taking part in a green energy initiative with a new solar panel system, or if you’re just interested in saving a little bit of extra money each month on your regular utility bill, it’s helpful to understand that there are more options than ever before for anyone who wants to save energy and water around the house. A great example lies in investing in a modern air conditioning unit. While there may be more cost associated with the upgrade up front, you have to consider the fact that the purchaser will pay for itself over time as you end up using less energy each and every month. On a similar note, installing an energy-efficient water heater can help your home to be more energy conscious while also saving you significant funds when your utility bill hits your inbox month after month. Consider the environment and the health and wellness of you and your family members by investing in energy solutions that make sense both today and onward into the future. You’ll be happy you did.

Whether you’re looking to spend a lot or a little on the health upgrades in your home this year, it plans to be informed before you delve into your next project. By following some of the tips and tricks mentioned above, we hope our list has helped you to take the first steps toward making your home environment a happier and healthier place for each and every person who steps foot inside of it. Best of luck and stay safe out there!

    Hi!:)
Thank you for your article, it’s a good idea to make your home safer and more comfortable:) Now I am thinking more and more about how to make the landscape by the pool more comfortable and attractive. These interesting ideas helped me to take note of a few things that I want to use for my home:)

Checking your home for mold and other pests is always a good idea. Also, you can update your furniture, which has long been in the landfill. I often tell myself that I will make a small update this year and keep putting it off for later. Now I need to find a good furniture mall to get good quality for new furniture at an affordable price

I often use simple methods to update my home. For example, a rearrangement is the easiest way to revive a bored interior. Who said the sofa should be against the wall? Move it to the window! Tired of sleeping with your head to the North? Turn the bed 90 degrees! Don’t be afraid of sudden and unexpected decisions — sometimes they are the most successful. Sometimes the methods are drastic: you can update household appliances, or just fix the water supply or call an electrician at home, often using someone from this list to change the wiring
