6 Tips for Finding the Right Cleaning Company for Your Home

clean homeWe all know life can get hectic. We run to work, kids’ activities, family events, and care for our pets. As a result, our homes can suffer the brunt of our busy days. If your house has gotten away from you, or even if you want cleaning it to be off your list, you may consider hiring a cleaning service. It can seem like a small task, but taking your time and finding the right company for your needs is crucial. Following these tips to help save you potential headaches down the line.

1. Ask for Recommendations

Start your journey to a cleaner home by asking friends and family who use cleaning services. There are so many out there that it can be hard to narrow them down. Once you have a few, do your research. Look at online reviews, the company websites, etc.

2. Check Experience and Accreditation

While researching, check how long the company has been in business. There are a lot of fly-by-night start-ups out there that might not do the best job. Be sure to check for the proper credentials, including insurance.

A cleaning company should be insured against damage and theft to your home. Check to see if the insurance offers business torts, which are various types of relief that will protect the company and workers. You don’t need an employee coming after you for damages if they injured themselves in your house.

3. Find Out What Services They Offer

It’s essential to communicate your needs to the cleaning company and ask what they do. Many companies offer a flat rate to do specific tasks around the home, like mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning bathrooms and the kitchen. If you need them to do things like change bedding, do laundry, and other unique things, you’ll need to ask and negotiate a new rate. Many companies don’t clean windows or drapes, so find this all out beforehand. A good company will provide a checklist of duties on its website such as cleaning services in Tukwila.

4. Be Transparent

Just as the cleaners should tell you about themselves, you must inform them of anything that could affect their work or health. For example, about 38% of houses in the U.S. have or are at risk of having mold damage in the basement. All workers should be allowed to protect themselves against this health hazard.

Furthermore, if you have issues with electricity, ventilation, or plumbing, let the company know so they can prepare accordingly. According to the EPA, leaky pipes are found in about ten percent of homes, resulting in up to 90 gallons of water daily. If cleaners know this, they’ll be more mindful about conserving.

5. Find Out Rates and Hidden Charges Ahead of Time

Cleaning companies differ in how they charge for services—some charge per hour and staffing. For instance, it may be $25 an hour for three cleaners, which is $75 per hour. Other businesses may charge a flat rate.

For example, they may base the fee on the square footage or number of rooms in your house. You may be charged extra for not providing equipment and supplies or transportation fees like mileage and gas. Ask upfront for an itemized list of all charges before signing a contract.

6. Ask About Guarantees

Don’t be afraid to ask about the company’s guarantee. Do they promise you’ll be satisfied, get your money back, or fix the situation? Be sure to do a walk-through before they leave to let them know if anything was overlooked so they can fix it immediately.

Hiring a cleaning company can significantly help you and your family. Communication and setting expectations are vital to both sides enjoying a long and productive business relationship.
