Narrated by Academy-Award winner Morgan Freeman, the film introduces Daphne Sheldrick and gives the viewer an intimate look at her elephant sanctuary in Kenya. Many of the elephants brought to her are there because poachers have killed their parents, and would not have survived without intervention. The viewer is then taken to Borneo to see Birute Galdikas’ sanctuary for orphaned orangutans. Again these animals have lost their homes and parents due to man’s actions.
Despite the tragic backdrop, the film has an overwhelming cute factor as you watch orangutans drinking milk from soda bottles, bathing themselves and even witness the elephants playing football. As it is filmed in 3D, it really feels as though you are really amongst the animals and as they grow and heal. At the end of the film the orphaned animals are released back into the wild where they belong, helping to restore the balance that was undone by humans.
This film tells an inspiring story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals and is must see for your next family outing.
